NEW PET TRAVEL LAWS

If you travel or are planning to travel outside of the UK with your dog please have a read.

Under new EU rules that have come into force pet owners resident in the Great Britain will no longer be able to use an EU-issued pet passport to travel to countries in the EU with their dogs, cats or ferrets. All GB residents traveling with their pets into the EU must get an Animal Health Certificate from a vet before travel.

GB residents should no longer use EU pet passports to travel into the EU. EU pet passports may now only be issued to people whose main home is in the EU and should not be used by people who have holiday homes in the EU or visit seasonally. EU pet passports issued to GB residents before 22 April 2026 may no longer be valid documents for entry to the EU. This means GB residents – even if they already have an EU pet passport – may need a different document to take their pet to the EU. To guarantee smooth travel, owners resident in Great Britain should get an Animal Health Certificate for their dog, cat or ferret(s) if they’re travelling from Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland) to an EU country.

Animal Health Certificates (AHCs) now last longer once you arrive, but they are still single‑use. Although you still need a new AHC for each trip from GB to the EU, the certificate can now be used for up to six months for onward travel within the EU and for re‑entering Great Britain, as long as rabies vaccinations remain valid.

If someone else travels with your pet, extra paperwork is needed. If the owner is not travelling with the pet, the pet must travel within five days of the owner, and the person accompanying the animal must carry written permission from the owner. This permission must travel with the pet’s travel document.

There is a new five‑pet limit per private vehicle. Non‑commercial travel into the EU is now limited to a maximum of five pets per private vehicle, rather than five per person. The existing limit of five pets for people travelling on foot stays the same. Exceptions apply for pets travelling to competitions, events or training, if specific conditions are met.

The changes apply to non-commercial movements of dogs, cats and ferrets

This month is Veterinary Nurse awareness month. We have an amazing team of nurses here at Masefield. We are now a team of 6 fully qualified RVNS, all with different passions and interests. This allows all aspects of nursing to be carried out with outstanding care and knowledge.

1st up is..... Head Nurse Katy. Katy started at the practice in October 2018. She has a very keen interest in neonatal care and canine behaviour. She has just achieved her Level 4 in canine behaviour. Katy loves gundog training and anything spaniel. She currently shares her home with 5 dogs, ducks, a cat and 2 horses.

Next up is Jen. Jen started work at the practice as a student in 2013! She qualified and gained experience with Masefield, moving practice to then work closer to home but came back to Masefield in 2021!! Jens favourite part of nursing is caring for our feline friends and putting her certificate in feline behaviour to use. Jen lives at home with her partner and her little boy. They have 2 dogs and a cat. Jen can be found baking, crafting or chasing her little boy round the woods with the dogs!

Next is Abi! Abi has worked at the practice since August 2021. Abi came to us as a student and went onto qualify with us in 2022. She loves a rescue, and will always be happy to help any animal if needed. Abi has three rescue pets herself, a rabbit, bearded dragon and a dog which keep her busy. Abi enjoys all aspects of her job, she does however have a very keen interest in traveling ... watch this space! Abi can be often found walking her crazy fun spaniel, baking and crafting.

Hannah is our latest member of the nursing team, starting with us in September 2025. Hannah has settled into the team tremendously and is a very loved team member. Hannah enjoys surgical nursing and is currently studying towards her schedule 3 in surgical nursing. She is a dedicated gym member and loves to travel.

Jess started at the practice in August 2023. Jess started as student and then later graduated in 2025. Jess thrives off diagnostic imaging such as radiography and ultrasonography, she also enjoys a lab case such as bloods and having a look at things under the microscope. Jess enjoys being part of her small holding and looks after an array of animals, at the moment she currently has alpacas, goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, horses and dogs!

Issy started as a student at Masefield in 2018 going on to qualify in 2020, she did many years full time but now is down to one day a week. This is so she can fit in her busy chaotic lifestyle! Issy is a fully qualified veterinary physio and is currently at Bristol vet school. If that isn't enough to keep her busy she also has 2 young children and can often be found riding her horse or walking her 3 dogs.

Keep an eye on our Facebook for more nursing updates!!

We would like to wish our RVN Andi all the very best as she moves to pastures new and begins a new challenge as a Head nurse. Andi has been part of the Masefield family for the past 6 years ( with a brief interlude as an OOH nurse) and has been an integral
part of the team. Andi we
will miss you greatly and are sure you will smash it in your new role and are proud of all you've achieved. And remember we love a Boomerang😁😁😁😁

Unfortunately we have had a deceased cat brought into us. Male neutered ginger cat found on longridge Road. Appeared to be well loved, had a collar but no chip. Yellow reflective collar and had 3 white rings of fur round the end of his tail.
Please call us on 01684 576464 if you believe he is yours.

🥳🥳🥳🥳Lets celebrate veterinary receptionist week🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

We are so lucky to have our team of receptionists. They do more than anyone realises and keep the practice together.
They manage the diary, answer the phone, keep dispensary clean and tidy, keep the consult rooms topped up, keep reception clean, support clients (both human and furry)......and they manage to do it all with a smile on their face!!

Introducing the team....
🐾Kim - Kim loves all things sighthound and the older the better! Kim loves to holiday and is always sure to take her furry companion Breeze along with her.

🐾Sally - Spaniel enthusiast, she has two but her little Iris keeps her on her toes! Sally can be found doing some painting, but normally will have a Jack Daniels in hand!

🐾Aimi - Aimi is a devoted terrier lover, and lives with her three terrier crosses. She loves trying out different places for afternoon teas.

🐾Emily - She is the cat fanatic of the reception team. Emily loves a cuddle with one of her five cats whilst reading her book. She also has two dogs and loves walking them around the Malvern area.

🐾Laura - Laura has the best of both worlds and can chill with her Labrador or be run ragged by her Labrador cross spaniel! You'll be sure to find Laura at the gym (if she isn't there...she'll be at the pub!)
