π° Did you know a rabbit's teeth never stop growing?
That's right! Rabbit teeth grow continuously throughout their lives, which is why a healthy diet is so important.
In the wild, rabbits spend hours grazing on tough grasses, naturally wearing their teeth down. Our pet rabbits need plenty of good-quality hay (around 80-90% of their diet) to help do the same.
If their teeth don't wear down properly, they can become overgrown or develop sharp spikes, leading to:
π Difficulty eating
π₯ Dropping food
π§ Excessive dribbling
ποΈ Watery eyes
βοΈ Weight loss
π£ Pain and discomfort
The good news is that we can help! Here at Station House Vets, we can examine your rabbit's teeth and, if needed, perform a dental burring (rasping) procedure under a general anaesthetic to carefully restore them to a comfortable length.
Regular health checks are a great way to spot dental problems early before they become more serious.
If you've noticed your bunny eating less, favouring soft foods, or showing any of the signs above, don't waitβgive us a call to book an appointment. π©Ίπ
