Handsome pup Jack visited for his first trim. He has already been for a meet and greet, a puppy social and a puppy bath appointment to help promote confidence visiting the salon
His owners do a fantastic job with Jack, looking after his coat and making sure he is used to being handled.
Lovely to see his eyes and to put some shape into his coat and very much looking forward to seeing Jack again in a few weeks!

Two sleepy pups after their baths to brighten up a Monday! 😍
As we approach another heatwave, the salon is armed with fans, cool water, regular breaks and cool driers but clients are always welcome to re-schedule their appointments if they are at all concerned about bringing their dog out in the high temperatures expected.

Every year when it gets hot I see people out with their dogs in crazy high temperatures 😔. My lot went out early doors for a walk and a good sniffing session, no walk this afternoon because it is so warm. So, my daughter and I made them all Lickimats with natural yoghurt and froze them. So easy to do (and cheap!), providing all of my gang with tiring mental enrichment in place of their physical exercise, not to mention all those feel good endorphins from licking....oh and probiotics, its a win win!

This sweet little Westie has been on my waiting list for a loooong time, but a regular appointment slot opened up and it was her turn to come in. Lovely to meet her and she settled in very well. Her owners do a great job of looking after her coat inbetween grooms, it was a pleasure to put her into her clipped pet Westie trim. A breed close to my heart as my Grandparents had Westies all their lives and their last one - Bonnie, was often practiced on when I first began grooming in (ahem) 1997. Eek. 28 years ago!!

This gorgeous girl came to visit recently for her first groom. Because she was a little late to the grooming party her owner and I broke this down into three visits over three weeks. A meet and greet, a bath and dry and then the full groom. Thanks to this gradual introduction she took to the process fabulously and even enjoyed chilling out under my reception desk for a bit....

WHAT YOU DON'T SEE AT THE DOG GROOMERS.......
You dropped your dog off at the salon and picked them up few hours later - fluffy, fresh, and happy. But what you saw was just the tip of the iceberg.

You didn’t see your groomer arrive early to open up the salon, disinfect tools, lay out fresh towels, and check the day’s appointments. You didn’t see them look over your dog from nose to tail before even lifting a brush - checking the coat condition, skin, eyes, ears, nails, and weight.

You didn’t see the careful way they clipped around a wriggly paw, or how they paused to let your dog calm down during the bath. You didn’t notice the matting hidden beneath your dog’s topcoat, or the way the groomer worked slowly to avoid hurting the skin beneath it.

You weren’t there when they spotted a red patch of irritated skin, or a small lump you hadn’t noticed. You heard them gently mention it to you at collection - not to worry you, but because they genuinely care about your dog’s wellbeing.

And after you left, you didn’t see the clean-down , the floor swept, tables cleaned, blades oiled, messages replied to, notes written up for your next visit, and laundry on again.

All of that… for a price that’s often lower than what you’d pay for your own haircut. And your hairdresser?
They don’t have to bathe you, clip your nails, or hold you still while you try to bite the brush.

The truth is ……. dog grooming is so much more than a haircut.

It’s about health, hygiene, comfort, and trust. It’s about knowing dog anatomy, coat types, skin conditions, behaviour management, handling skills, and safe sc******ng techniques. It’s a profession that takes training, practice, and patience.
Most groomers got into this work because they love dogs. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be paid fairly for the physical, emotional, and skilled work they do every single day.

If your dog leaves their groomer happy, healthy and looking good - it’s not by luck. It’s because you have got a good groomer.
So next time, take a moment to thank them. Leave a review.

Tip them if you can. And above all - don’t undervalue them.
They’re doing far more than just washing the dog.

Spring has sprung, but are you aware of the dangers inside your very own home and garden? 🌷

It's important to keep an eye out for what your dog is investigating and possibly ingesting.

Some spring flowers and bulbs to be cautious of are:

- Tulips
- Daffodils
- Spring Crocus
- Bluebells

Its important to know that not only eating plants can cause a problem, but even drinking water from a vase could be just as dangerous.

What to do if your dog has eaten something they shouldn't? Contact your vet immediately.
