We have 5 declared speakers for our “Expert Insights for Horse Owners” Afternoon at Aintree Racecourse on Friday 15th May! 🏇

The field is taking shape nicely for an informative afternoon of equine talks from our experienced vets, including specialist surgeons and medicine clinicians.

The card includes talks on tendon injuries and rehabilitation, preparing for foals, managing gastric ulcers, parasite management, and transporting sick or injured horses.

🕜 The gates open at 1:30pm�🏇 Followed by an evening of racing at Aintree from 5:10pm

🐴🐴🐴 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐛𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭!!! 🐴🐴🐴

There are currently multiple outbreaks of equine influenza (equine flu) across the country including in Shropshire with cases being reported in both vaccinated and unvaccinated horses.

Whilst it is rarely fatal, equine influenza can cause serious illness, especially in unvaccinated horses.

Symptoms include:
💉fever often over 38.5 degrees
💉persistent dry, harsh cough
💉clear, watery nasal discharge
💉loss of appetite
💉lethargy

We have signed up to the equine influenza Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) flu surveillance scheme. This allows for free laboratory fees for equine influenza testing in eligible horses.

𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐳𝐚. Vaccinated horses usually show mild symptoms only and feedback from the last major outbreak in 2019 found that horses that had received a booster in the previous 6 months were less likely to show signs of clinical disease. We recommend that you check your horse’s passport and get in touch with us if you are concerned about your horse’s vaccination status.

It is important not to rely on false information widely available on the internet. Equine Infectious Disease Surveillance is an excellent resource with all the most up to date information.

Huge well done to our clients Libby Castle and Helen Naden who qualified for the National Indoor Carriage Driving Championships at Arena UK last weekend!

Libby came 6th in the Small Pony Pair with her ponies Blue and Lily and Helen came 5th in the Intermediate Pony class with her pony Pippin.

Amazing achievement ladies!! 👏👏👏
