💛🧀Could You Be the Mac to His Cheese? Cheddar’s Special Appeal🧀💛

Today we have a very special appeal for a truly grate boy… our extra cheesy superstar, Cheddar!🧀

Cheddar has been trialing home life after kennel life became a bit too much for him. Since moving into a loving home, he’s melted into domestic life like, well, cheese on toast! He’s proven that he’s made for home comforts, snuggles, and sofa time and now it’s time for him to find that forever home where he can finally settle, feel secure, and be loved for the big soft-hearted boy he is🏡

We would really love for it to finally be Cheddar’s turn to find his forever family. He’s come such a long whey (see what I did there?) in such a short time, and we’d hate for his amazing progress to go backwards. He’s ready to slot from one home to another smooth as melted brie and bring love, laughter, and cheesy smiles to his new family😁🧡

Cheddar has been staying with the wonderful Rebecca, who has written the most heartwarming description of him below. We hope the right people see this and fall head over heels for this sweet boy🥰

Here’s what Rebecca says about Cheddar:

Cheddar is an incredibly sweet-natured dog! He bonds so deeply and fully. He loves people, and when we’ve been visiting people, he looks forward to greeting everyone every morning, excitedly jumping up from his bed to trot over to say hello, wagging his tail, all because he is so happy to see you! He also loves people coming to visit the home, and gets excited every time the doorbell rings, but never jumps up on people, so his greeting is a beautiful mix of joy and good manners!

He cares for his humans so deeply. When we were visiting my parents, my dad slipped in the garden, and Cheddar jumped up from his slumber on the grass, and ran over to make sure he was ok! Cheddar really is the sweetest dog!

He adores squeaky toys, and runs around searching for where the toy is whenever he hears a squeak… even when the squeak is on the tv! Once he has his new toy, he won’t stop playing with it until the squeak is gone, not that it takes him long to chew holes in the squeaker so it no longer squeaks!

He loves playing chase with his ball, and will run after it as many times as you can throw it! Once he has the ball, he’ll lie on the floor and chew it, so not great at the return part of playing fetch :) so, you need 2 balls, one that’s in his mouth, and one to throw so he drops that one… although he doesn’t always drop it and then quickly looks back and forth, trying to decide which ball he wants.

You’ll also have to make sure that there’s space on the sofa, because as soon as you sit down he runs over and jumps up beside you. First he’ll sit tall and proud, waiting for you to rub his belly and chest, and when you’ve stopped doing that, he’ll gently lie down beside you, place his head on your lap, and drift off into a deep and peaceful sleep. His absolute favourite place in the world is being beside his people! When we visit my parents he’s not allowed on the sofa (my mum is allergic to dogs), so instead lies down on the floor on your feet, because he always likes to be close to you. And when he’s super happy, he’ll reward you with a roach! He’ll also lean into you when you stroke him, showing his love and affection at all opportunities!

Cheddar doesn’t get overly excited about going out for walks, but he does do a little trot back and forth, wagging his tail, which is super cute to watch! Once on walks, he loves being out and can pull on the lead whenever it’s a new walking route because he’s excited, but on his regular route, he’ll happily plod or trot beside you, depending on your walking speed.

Every week we go for a walk with Cheddar’s greyhound friends, and their humans have also fallen in love with Cheddar! He’s so sweet, he captures the hearts of everyone he meets! He adores his weekly walk with his greyhound friends, but is still reactive to other breeds, although he has come on in leaps and bounds! He still has off days (don’t we all?) but most days he can walk with a dog on the opposite side of the road without being verbally or physically reactive. Some days, he’s even more interested in sniffing the bushes than the stranger dog! With reassurance, love, and building trust that you will keep him below his threshold, he will continue to grow and develop! He’s even met some other breeds when he’s been out and about with his greyhound friends. With understanding, patience and kindness, he will continue to grow in confidence!

All in all, Cheddar is the best dog! Whoever adopts him will find their life full of love and affection! He will love you to the moon and back, and he will show that love every single day!

So there you have it our boy Cheddar is pure gold, through and through! He’s a loyal, loving, utterly irresistible slice of joy who deserves his forever home. If you’re looking for a companion to make your life a little cheesier (in the best way), Cheddar could be your perfect match💛

Let’s make it Cheddar’s turn to go home forever🧀

🎃👻HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM THE HAUNTED HOUNDS AND SPOOKY STAFF AT CLARKS FARM!👻🎃

We hope you all have a fang-tastic Halloween with your hounds and that it’s filled with treats, cuddles, and maybe a few tricks too!🐾🕸️

🎃👻A Little Halloween Magic with Our Gorgeous Belle👻🎃

Take a look at what a few days in a home looks like for our gorgeous Belle!

Belle has come home for a week and she has completely blown us all away with how exceptional she is.

It didn’t take long for Belle to discover the sofa, and she’s been absolutely loving the comforts of home life. She’s been sharing chairs and enjoying treat time with the other greyhounds in the home, and has had no issues at all.

Belle loves to be close and can often be found snuggling into her humans as close as possible, like the sweetest little shadow. She’s also incredible on her walks. We’ve seen dogs of all shapes and sizes and she couldn’t care less. She’s perfect on the lead when out and about too.

Belle also loves to help out around the house. She’s the pawfect little assistant, always happy to join in with the cooking, cleaning, putting things away, and even exercising. She makes sure to give you plenty of kisses along the way to keep you motivated.

Honestly, we don’t see why Belle should have to wait around any longer. She is ready to go straight into another home. She is truly exceptional and she’s going to make one very lucky family endlessly happy.

So as the pumpkins glow and the autumn nights draw in, wouldn’t it be wonderful for Belle to find her forever sofa now? We’d love for her to go home from home or spend only a little time in kennels before settling in for good. She’ll fit right in like she’s never been away.

Belle is pure magic wrapped in fur. Could she cast her spell on you this Halloween?🎃 🐾

If you’d like to learn more about Belle, creep over to our website (🔗 https://www.clarksfarmgreyhounds.org.uk/dogs-for-rehoming/belle.htm) for her full profile, spooky snaps, and details about what she’s looking for in her forever haunts🏡👻

🎆Top Tip Tuesday: Helping Your Hound Cope With Fireworks!🎆

Firework season is approaching, and for our sensitive Hounds, the noise and flashes can be overwhelming. Here are our top tips to help keep your hound safe, calm, and comfortable💙

🐾Create a safe space or den
Set up a cosy area where your greyhound can retreat. Use their favourite bed, blankets, and perhaps a toy or item that smells like you. This gives them a place to feel secure when the fireworks begin.

🎶Mask the noise with calming music
Play music designed specifically for dogs or keep the TV on to help drown out the bangs. The familiar background sound can help soothe and distract your greyhound.

🌙Block out the light
Close curtains and blinds to reduce the bright flashes from fireworks, which can be just as unsettling as the noise. Keeping the lights on indoors can also help minimise sudden changes in brightness.

🧣Use snoods or ear covers
A soft snood over their ears can help muffle loud sounds and make your greyhound feel more secure. Make sure it’s comfortable and not too tight.

🔖Check ID tags
Ensure your greyhound’s ID tag is on, readable, and up to date. Even well-trained dogs can panic and try to escape if frightened.

🕰️Stick to your routine
Walk and feed your greyhound before it gets dark so they’ve had what they need before the fireworks start. A full tummy and an early walk will help them settle indoors.

🚪Secure your home and garden
Check that all doors, windows, and garden gates are closed and locked. This reduces the risk of your greyhound slipping out if startled.

🌿Use the lead in the garden
If you need to let them out during fireworks, keep them on a lead. Even the calmest hound can spook suddenly and try to bolt.

💗Stay calm and reassuring
Your greyhound looks to you for cues. Stay relaxed, speak softly, and offer reassurance. Avoid reacting strongly to the fireworks yourself.

🏡Stay at home
Try not to leave your dog alone during fireworks. Your presence helps them feel safer and more settled.

🤗Let them choose comfort
If they want a cuddle, give it. If they want to hide, let them. Offer reassurance without over-fussing. Every greyhound copes differently.

💊Plan ahead
If your greyhound really struggles, speak to your vet about calming aids or treatments well before fireworks begin.

✨Stay tuned!
We’ll be sharing our full Firework Season Guide this Saturday with even more information to help you prepare and support your greyhound through the season safely and calmly.

Meet One Of Our Most Overlooked Girls Razz…💔

Razz is a confident and fun-loving girl with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She’s full of joy, loves her humans, and brings a perfect balance of playfulness and laid-back🥰

Razz is currently sharing her kennel with Pugsley, who she’s formed a lovely bond with, and while she can be a little choosy with her doggy friends, she could live with another calm and easy-going greyhound.🐕

She’s also more than happy as the only dog in the home. Razz would thrive in a home with adults or older, dog-savvy children who understand when she needs space🏡

During her dog test, she was calm and polite with Blossom, showing friendly interest and walking comfortably by her side – she was alert to movement at first but settled quickly once she was confident🐾

She’s a sweet, bright, and lovable girl who is sure to bring endless smiles to her lucky forever family💙

If you’d like to learn more about Razz, creep over to our website (🔗 https://www.clarksfarmgreyhounds.org.uk/dogs-for-rehoming/razz.htm) for her full profile, spooky snaps, and details about what she’s looking for in her forever haunts🏡👻

🎃👻MEET POISON IVY -LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME👻🎃

Meet Ivy the only kind of Poison Ivy you’ll want to fall for! Get ready to be completely enchanted by our lovely little lady, Ivy. Just shy of two years old, she’s the youngest hound at Clarks Farm and also one of the smallest but there’s absolutely nothing small about the love she has to give. Ivy is ready to cast a spell on her forever humans and wrap them up in her magical charm this spooky season👻🏡

From the very first moment you meet her, you’ll feel that soft, quiet magic she carries with her. It’s the kind that creeps into your heart before you even realise it. With her sweet nature, gentle heart, and a sprinkle of playful sass, Ivy has bewitched all of us here at the kennels. Her quiet confidence and playful spirit bloom more each day, and her light-hearted personality is the perfect potion to brighten any home❤️🧪

She’s social, friendly, and really enjoys the company of other greyhounds. Because of this, we feel she’d love a home with another hound or two to guide her through the mysteries of home life. That said, Ivy is also confident and independent. She doesn’t rely on others for security and would be just as happy as the only dog in the home soaking up all the love and attention like a little Halloween queen👑🐕

Ivy is a total sweetheart with people too, and would be more than happy living with dog-savvy children in her forever home. She loves all humans, big and small, and we know she’ll settle beautifully into a loving family that can give her the warmth she deserves. Of course, she’d also thrive in a peaceful adult-only or teenage home, where she can snooze the day away and enjoy cosy autumn walks among the falling leaves🍂🐾

During her dog test, Ivy truly lit up when she met Blossom. She was gentle, affectionate, and walked calmly by her side, her tail wagging like a little broomstick in flight. She’s so open-hearted and friendly that we believe she has great potential to live with other breeds, depending on careful introductions and matching personalities🧡🎃

Ivy is one of our go-to dogs for Meet the Breed appointments, as she’s such a wonderful ambassador for greyhounds. She’s helped so many families fall in love with the breed and one look at her and it’s easy to see why. Ivy casts a love spell on everyone she meets!🧙‍♀️💕

So, if you’re looking for a love that creeps in quietly and takes root forever, let Ivy wrap her little witchy paws around your heart this Halloween… and never look back💀🐾

If you’d like to learn more about Ivy, creep over to our website (🔗 https://www.clarksfarmgreyhounds.org.uk/dogs-for-rehoming/ivy.htm) for her full profile, spooky snaps, and details about what she’s looking for in her forever haunts🏡👻

🎃👻MEET UNCLE FESTER-LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME👻🎃

Meet Fester our very own Uncle Fester of the kennels! Always lighting up every room he walks into (sometimes quite literally!), Fester is the ultimate BFG (Big Friendly Greyhound). This handsome boy is such a gentleman, and we’re all completely head over paws in love with him. At just 3 years old, this hauntingly handsome hound is ready to find his forever family and spark some magic in their lives⚡️🏡

Just one look at that gorgeous silver-blue coat and those soulful eyes, and you’ll understand why he’s our resident ghostly supermodel. Happy-go-lucky, affectionate, and quietly charismatic, Fester is at his happiest when spending quality time with his favourite humans, soaking up every ounce of love and attention. Though calm and well-behaved, he’s got a cheeky little spark that flickers to life in the most joyful ways👻❤️

Fester has happily shared his kennel with a few lovely ladies, always polite, calm, and gentle in their company. We believe he’d settle beautifully in a home with a calm female greyhound who matches his relaxed energy. That said, Fester is equally content in his own company and would be perfectly happy as the only hound in the home soaking up all the love, attention, and Halloween cuddles for himself🕯️🐕

When it comes to humans, Fester loves them all, big and small. However, due to his size (and his tendency to stretch out like Dracula’s cape), a home with very young children wouldn’t be the best fit. Older, dog-savvy children or teenagers who are confident around large dogs would suit him perfectly as would an adult-only home where he can snooze the days away, stretch out across the sofa like a lounging ghost, and be the centre of his humans world🌕💤

During his dog test, Fester was full of enthusiasm when he first spotted Blossom. After some polite sniffs and tail wags, he quickly settled into the walk, strolling happily side by side with her like a gentleman on a moonlit night. Calm, social, and full of charm Fester was the picture of perfection🤩🐾

Fester has settled into life at Clark’s Farm as if he’s always belonged here. From his very first day, he’s shown what a kind, gentle, and well-mannered soul he truly is. And, true to his name, Fester continues to light up our lives. He is a shining spirit among the hounds who warms even the chilliest autumn mornings🕸️🖤

Fester might share his name with a ghostly uncle, but this boy’s light shines brighter than any bulb. He’s guaranteed to brighten your days, warm your heart, and fill your home with endless love. Adopt this electric soul, and you’ll never be left in the dark because Fester is one shockingly good companion⚡️👻

If you’d like to learn more about Fester, creep over to our website (🔗 https://www.clarksfarmgreyhounds.org.uk/dogs-for-rehoming/fester.htm) for his full profile, spooky snaps, and details about what he’s looking for in his forever haunts🏡👻

🎃👻MEET HELLE BELLE-LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME👻🎃

Meet Belle our spellbinding princess of Clarks Farm. With a heart so big it could melt even the Beast, Belle is overflowing with love and charm. She’s a true cuddlebug through and through, always eager to share her heart with anyone lucky enough to meet her. At 4 years old, this little enchantress is more than ready to find a family to finally call her own🏡👻

She’s also one of our more energetic greyhounds. She is a whirlwind of joy, always up for an adventure or a new experience. Belle is confident, outgoing, and full of life. Absolutely nothing fazes her she takes everything in her stride like a true princess on a Halloween tale. Behind all that energy, she has a beautifully sensitive and caring side too. She loves deeply and cares for those around her in the most genuine way. Her love is loud, her heart is huge, and her loyalty is as strong as a vampire’s bite❤️🦇

Belle is very social with all the greyhounds and enjoys the company of her fellow hounds. We know she would happily share her forever haunted mansion with another greyhound or two she really does love having spooky sidekicks around her! That said, Belle is very much a people dog at heart. She would be just as happy as the only dog in the home, soaking up all the love and attention like the true queen of Halloween she is🎃👑

Because of her enthusiastic nature, we feel confident, dog-savvy children who can match her fun-loving energy and enjoy playtime would be the perfect match. She’d love joining in on family adventures whether that’s trick-or-treating, autumn strolls through the leaves, or cosy movie nights with pumpkin snacks. She’d also be just as content in a calm, adult-only home where she can bewitch her humans with cuddles and charm🕸️🐾

During her dog test, Belle was an absolute star she took us all by surprise with how calm and polite she was. Friendly, well-mannered, and confident in her approach, she walked alongside Blossom like they were heading to a Halloween paw-ty together. Curious at first (probably wondering if Blossom was a tiny werewolf), Belle’s playful nature soon kicked in and she just wanted to make friends💀🧡

It breaks our hearts to think that Belle might be overlooked simply because she has a little more energy than some of our other hounds. But we wish everyone could see her through our eyes joyful, kind, full of magic, and utterly spellbinding💫🎃

Belle is ready to find her fairy-tale ending – or perhaps her haunted happily ever after.
With Belle by your side, every day will feel like your own magical love story… just with a Halloween twist🎃👻🕯️

Our Story

Clarks Farm Greyhounds is a registered charity in its own right and is the Maldon branch of the Greyhound Trust. Working alongside the Greyhound Trust and Friends of Crayford Retired Greyhounds we take in ex racing/ retired greyhounds and find permanent loving homes for them.

Thousands of Greyhounds retire from racing every year. Some are less than two years old; the majority are aged around three and four. Many people do not realise that greyhounds make excellent family pets. They are gentle, loving and adapt to home life easily. Contrary to common belief they are actually very lazy and only need two 20 minute walks each day. When re-homed responsibly they can live with other breeds of dogs and other pets such as cats.

Our expert team at the kennels can work with you to match the right greyhound to your circumstances, as all our greyhounds are socialised and cat tested prior to re-homing.
