🍀🐾MEET DERMOT-LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME🍀🐾

Dermot is the definition of a classic male greyhound, with his chilled-out, soppy nature perfectly balanced by a cheeky, playful side. Kind, caring, and full of love, he’s a wonderful companion who takes everything in his stride and has a way of making everyone around him smile. Whether he’s enjoying his walks, soaking up the sunshine, or catching up on some well-earned beauty sleep, Dermot appreciates all of life’s simple pleasures. People are everything to him, and he’s happiest when he’s spending time with his humans, simply being part of whatever they’re doing. His gentle heart, sweet face, and wonderfully calm nature make him impossible not to fall in love with. Dermot is ready to turn a house into a home, one cuddle at a time🏡

Dermot absolutely adores people, but we do feel older children aged 10 years and over would suit him best. He is such a relaxed, easy-going boy who enjoys a calm lifestyle, and we know he would appreciate children who understand that sometimes a greyhound simply wants to enjoy a peaceful nap after a nice walk. Equally, we think he would be perfectly happy in an adult-only home or with teenagers, where he can simply enjoy each day alongside his family at his own relaxed pace. Give this lovely boy a comfy sofa and the people he loves, and he’ll be one very happy hound❤️

Dermot is more than happy sharing his kennel with female greyhounds and is a very social boy with his greyhound friends, so we know he would happily share his forever home with a female greyhound companion. Equally, he is such a people-focused and independent boy that we have no doubt he would also thrive as the only dog in the home, soaking up every bit of love and attention for himself. He really is the sort of dog who is simply happy as long as he has people to love🐕

Dermot has found his dog tests a little more challenging and hasn’t quite worked out that Blossom is actually another dog. At times he can become a little stalky and occasionally a little snappy, but we genuinely believe that with time, patience, and plenty of positive socialisation, he will continue to make lovely progress. He will simply need a family who are willing to support him on that journey and help him build his confidence around other breeds. We know he is trying his best, and with the right guidance, he has every chance of becoming even more confident in these situations🐾

The truth is, this is only a tiny part of who Dermot is. Sadly, being a beautiful black greyhound who hasn’t yet passed his dog test can immediately put him at a disadvantage when families are choosing which dog to adopt. But if there is one thing we have learnt over the years, it is that the dogs who sometimes need a little extra support often become some of the most incredible companions once they are settled into home life. Dermot has every quality you could wish for in a best friend, and we truly believe that with love, patience, praise, and positive experiences, he will continue to grow in confidence and learn that other dogs don’t need to worry him. Please don’t let one small part of his journey stop you from seeing the truly exceptional dog standing in front of you🥺

He has spent every day showing us just how kind, loving, and special he is, and now it is time for someone to see in him exactly what we all do. We know there is a very lucky family out there waiting for this beautiful boy, and when they find him, they’ll wonder how they ever lived without him. Dermot has so much love to give, and he deserves humans who will love him just as unconditionally in return🖤

If you think your home could be the calm, loving place Dermot has been waiting for, get in touch! You can register your interest by calling us any day between 10am and 4pm on 01621 788315 or email us any time at [email protected] 📧💙

🧠💙WEDNESDAY WISDOM | The Greyhound’s Home Journey I
Week 5: The 3-3-3 Rule💙🧠

Welcome back to our Wednesday Wisdom series, The Greyhound’s Home Journey.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve explored the importance of the first few months, creating a routine, building confidence and remembering that progress matters far more than perfection. This week, we’re looking at something many new adopters will have heard of… the 3-3-3 Rule.

You may have seen the 3-3-3 Rule shared online as a guide to how dogs settle into a new home. While it can be a helpful way of understanding the adjustment process, it’s important to remember that it isn’t a rule or a deadline. Every greyhound is an individual, and every journey is unique.

❤️The first 3 days
During the first few days, your greyhound is likely to be taking everything in. They’ve left behind the only life they’ve ever known and are adjusting to an entirely new environment. Some dogs may seem quiet or withdrawn, while others may appear surprisingly relaxed. Give them time to decompress, avoid overwhelming them and simply allow them to settle at their own pace.

🏡The first 3 weeks
As the days turn into weeks, your greyhound will often begin to learn your routine and understand what life in their new home looks like. This is when trust starts to grow, confidence begins to build and you may notice more of their personality shining through. Continue to keep things consistent, positive and reassuring.

🌱The first 3 months
By this stage, many greyhounds feel much more settled and comfortable in their surroundings. They may become more playful, more affectionate and increasingly confident as they continue to discover the world around them. However, it’s important to remember that their journey doesn’t stop here. Many greyhounds continue to grow and blossom well beyond the three-month mark.

💙It’s a guide, not a rule
The biggest misconception about the 3-3-3 Rule is that every dog will reach these milestones at exactly the same time. The reality is that some greyhounds settle within a few weeks, while others may take six months, a year or even longer to truly feel at home. Neither journey is better than the other.

🐾Every journey is different
Just like people, every greyhound has their own personality, life experiences and confidence levels. Some will embrace new adventures straight away, while others need a little extra time and reassurance. Comparing your greyhound to another dog can often lead to unnecessary worry. Instead, celebrate your own dog’s progress, no matter how big or small.

❤️Keep supporting them
Whether your greyhound has been home for three days, three months or three years, they’ll always benefit from your love, patience and understanding. Continue building trust, maintaining routines and celebrating every little achievement along the way.

Remember, don’t measure your greyhound against a timeline… measure them by how far they’ve come❤️‍🩹

🐾We’d love to hear from you! Did your greyhound follow the 3-3-3 Rule, or did they take a completely different path? Share your experiences in the comments. Your story might be exactly what another new adopter needs to hear👇

🖤Black greyhounds deserve to be seen🖤

Swipe through to learn more about Black Dog Syndrome and why so many wonderful black greyhounds continue to be overlooked.

Over time, we’ve noticed a clear pattern here at Clarks Farm. Our black greyhounds consistently receive significantly fewer clicks on their adoption profiles than our lighter coloured greyhounds. In many cases, lighter coloured hounds receive double, sometimes even triple, the number of profile views. We have never seen one of our black greyhounds receive more profile views in a month than a lighter coloured hound.

The difficult part is that this has nothing to do with the dogs themselves.

Black greyhounds are just as loving, gentle, funny and deserving as every other greyhound in our care. They simply aren’t getting the same chance to be noticed.

This is something commonly known as Black Dog Syndrome, a phenomenon recognised by many rehoming organisations where black dogs are often overlooked in favour of dogs with lighter coloured coats.

As the majority of the greyhounds in our care are black, we always have plenty of wonderful black hounds waiting patiently for a family to call their own. Each one has their own personality, quirks and story to tell, and we truly believe they deserve to be chosen for who they are, not the colour of their coat.

If you’re thinking about adopting, we’d love you to take a little extra time to browse the profiles of our black greyhounds. Read their stories, learn about their personalities and imagine the life you could build together. Your perfect companion may be the one you’ve been scrolling past.

Even if you’re not looking to adopt, you can still make a huge difference. Sharing this post could help one of our black greyhounds reach the person who has been waiting for them all along.

Together, we can help raise awareness of Black Dog Syndrome and remind people that the best companion isn’t defined by the colour of their coat, but by the love they have to give❤️‍🩹

If this post has inspired you to take a second look at our black greyhounds, we’d love for you to head over to our website (🔗 https://www.clarksfarmgreyhounds.org.uk/dogs-for-rehoming/ ) to explore their full profiles, learn about their unique personalities and discover what they’re looking for in their forever homes. You might just find your perfect companion waiting there🖤

If you think you could offer one of our wonderful greyhounds a loving forever home, please register your interest by calling us any day between 10am and 4pm on 01621 788315, or email us anytime at [email protected]. 📧💙

Or, if you’re ready to take the next step, you can apply to adopt by completing our adoption application form here: 🔗 https://form.jotform.com/250073671192050 📝

🧠💙WEDNESDAY WISDOM | The Greyhound’s Home Journey I Week 4: It’s Okay Not to Be Perfect💙🧠

Welcome back to our Wednesday Wisdom series, The Greyhound’s Home Journey.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve talked about settling into home life, creating a routine and building confidence. This week, we’re talking about something every new greyhound owner needs to hear…

It’s okay if your greyhound isn’t perfect.

In fact, we’d go one step further and say that there’s no such thing as a perfect greyhound.

Retired racing greyhounds are beginning an entirely new chapter of their lives. They’re learning what it’s like to live in a home, discovering new sights and sounds, meeting different people and dogs, and trying to understand a world they’ve never experienced before. Just like us, they’ll have things they find easy and things they find more challenging.

❤️Every journey is unique.
No two greyhounds are the same. Some settle into home life within a few weeks, while others need several months to truly relax. Some confidently walk into every new situation, while others prefer to take things one step at a time. Neither journey is better than the other. Every greyhound deserves the time to learn at their own pace.

🌱Celebrate progress.
It’s easy to focus on what your greyhound can’t do yet, but take a moment to look back at how far they’ve already come. Maybe they were nervous walking through the front door, but now they’re happily snoozing on the sofa. Maybe they were unsure around traffic, but now they’re enjoying their daily walks. Every small step forward is worth celebrating.

🐾Keep learning.
Learning doesn’t stop after the first few weeks. Every positive experience helps your greyhound understand the world a little better and builds confidence for the future. Some days they’ll surprise you, and other days they may need a little extra reassurance. Both are completely normal.

🤝Be patient.
Progress rarely happens in a straight line. There will be wonderful days where everything clicks and more challenging days where it feels like you’ve taken a step backwards. That’s simply part of learning. Patience, kindness and consistency will always achieve more than rushing your greyhound before they’re ready.

⭐Setbacks happen.
A setback doesn’t mean you’ve failed or that your greyhound has forgotten everything they’ve learned. New environments, changes in routine or unexpected experiences can sometimes make them feel unsure again. The important thing is to keep supporting them with understanding and encouragement.

💙Keep believing.
Sometimes all a greyhound needs is someone who believes in them. With your love, patience and support, they’ll continue to grow in confidence and show you just how incredible they truly are.

Remember, progress isn’t measured by perfection. It’s measured by every little step forward🩵

🐾We’d love to hear from you! What is one achievement your greyhound has made that made you incredibly proud? We’d love to celebrate those special moments with you in the comments👇

💙🏆MEET CHAMP-LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME🏆💙

Champ is a cheeky, kind-hearted boy who truly lives up to his name, a real champion of love and companionship. Affectionate and quietly confident, he adores being around people. Whether he’s leaning in for cuddles or checking in to see how you’re doing, Champ has a heart full of love and a gift for bringing comfort to those around him💛

A chatty boy with plenty to say, Champ loves keeping his humans on their toes and believes he’s the perfect lap dog! When he’s not enjoying time with his favourite people, you’ll find him snoozing away or having one of his famous mad five minutes. And of course, those fabulous floppy ears only add to his endless charm. Champ is ready to claim the biggest trophy of all… a family to call his own🏡

We do feel a home with very young children would not be the best fit, simply because of those classic greyhound zoomies and their complete lack of spatial awareness. Older dog-savvy children aged 10+ or teenagers who are confident around larger dogs would be ideal for him. He would also be perfectly suited to an adult-only home where he can snooze the days away, stretch out across the sofa, and be the very centre of his humans’ world, just as every champion deserves. After all, every Champ deserves a cheering squad of his very own❤️

Champ is a wonderfully social boy who enjoys the company of both his humans and his fellow greyhounds, happily sharing his world with everyone around him. He would happily share his forever home with another greyhound or two and isn’t fussy who they are, as long as they’re kind and enjoy a peaceful life. That said, he would be just as happy as the only hound in the home, soaking up all the love, cuddles, and attention from his humans and living life centre stage, exactly where our Champ belongs🐕

During his dog test, Champ was a little eager at first and wasn’t quite sure what to make of Blossom. But as soon as he had a proper sniff, he realised she was a friend and quickly settled. The pair happily walked up the road together, although Champ did like to keep checking in to make sure it was still the same dog! We think busier environments may feel a little overwhelming for him at times, but with a little time, patience, and encouragement, we know Champ will show just how calm, social, and well-mannered he truly is🐾

He will benefit from plenty of positive experiences with other breeds to help build his confidence in every situation, and we know he’ll take it all in his stride like the champion he is. He simply needs someone willing to support him, believe in him, and help him grow into the confident boy we know he’s capable of becoming🥰

Champ really is the complete package, funny, affectionate, gentle, and full of love. He has so much to offer the lucky family who chooses him, and we know he’ll spend every day making them feel like champions too. We can’t wait for the day this wonderful boy finally gets the happy ending he’s been waiting for, because no dog deserves to stand on the winner’s podium more than our lovely Champ🏆

If you think your home could be the perfect place for Champ to win the forever family he’s been waiting for, get in touch! You can register your interest by calling us any day between 10am and 4pm on 01621 788315 or email us any time at [email protected] 📧💙

Or, let the cuddles begin and apply to adopt Champ directly by filling out our adoption form here: 🔗 https://form.jotform.com/250073671192050 📝

Trust us, welcoming Champ into your life is a winning decision. This wonderful boy will steal your heart, earn his place on your sofa, and take home the greatest prize of all… your love forever🏆🐾

💙🦋MEET ARLIA-LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME🦋💙

Arlia is full of sass, cheekiness, and personality, with a heart as beautiful as she is. She has the most wonderful way of making everyone around her smile, bringing so much love, laughter, and happiness wherever she goes. Friendly, affectionate, and wonderfully outgoing, Arlia is the kind of girl who leaves a lasting impression on everyone she meets🥰

She absolutely adores spending time with people, soaking up cuddles and being part of whatever her favourite humans are doing. When it’s time for a walk or dinner, though, her wonderfully dramatic high-pitched “Arlia alarm” soon lets everyone know that we really shouldn’t keep her waiting! It’s one of the many little quirks that makes us love her even more. Arlia is ready to brighten one very lucky family’s life🏡

Arlia would be happiest with children aged 10+. She loves all humans, but we know she needs children who understand when she wants to relax, have a snooze, or enjoy a little space. She would be just as happy in an adult-only home or one with teenagers, where she can be the centre of attention, exactly as she loves to be. I mean, with a girl this beautiful, how could she not?❤️

Arlia is very happy sharing her kennel space and is currently kennelled with Dermot. The two absolutely adore each other, just as she adores all of her greyhound friends. We know Arlia would be more than happy sharing her forever home with another greyhound or two, as she is such a social girl with the other hounds. That said, Arlia is a true people lover too, and we know she would be just as happy as the only dog in the home, soaking up all the love and attention for herself. Either way, as long as she has her humans to love, we know she will be one very happy girl🐕

During her dog tests, Arlia was a little confused and couldn’t quite work out what Blossom was. We decided to give her a second test, but although she was a little more vocal the second time, it was still clear that she was feeling uncertain rather than reacting with any bad intentions. Arlia doesn’t need lots of intense training, but she will need a family willing to continue building her confidence around other breeds through positive experiences, gentle introductions, and plenty of encouragement🐾

We truly believe her uncertainty comes from confusion rather than anything else, and with time, love, and support, she will continue to grow into an even more well-rounded hound. We really don’t want this one small part of her journey to hold her back because, in every other way, she is exceptional. She is a true ambassador for the breed with the most incredible personality and a heart as big as can be💖

Arlia has so much love to give and asks for so very little in return. She is funny, affectionate, endlessly entertaining, and one of those dogs who makes every day brighter just by being herself. We know there is a very lucky family out there waiting for this beautiful girl, and when they find her, they’ll wonder how they ever lived without her. Trust us when we say, life is simply better with a little Arlia love in it🦋

If you think your home could be the perfect place for Arlia to be the centre of attention she so deserves, get in touch! You can register your interest by calling us any day between 10am and 4pm on 01621 788315 or email us any time at [email protected] 📧💙

🧠💙WEDNESDAY WISDOM | The Greyhound’s Home Journey I Week 3: Building Confidence💙🧠

Welcome back to our Wednesday Wisdom series, The Greyhound’s Home Journey.

Over the past two weeks, we’ve talked about helping your greyhound settle into home life and why routine plays such an important role in their journey. This week, we’re focusing on something that grows hand in hand with both of those… confidence.

For many retired racing greyhounds, home life is unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before. Everyday things that we take for granted, such as household noises, stairs, mirrors, different floor surfaces, traffic, busy parks or meeting new dogs, may all be completely new to them. Building confidence isn’t about expecting your greyhound to face everything at once. It’s about helping them discover that the world isn’t so scary after all, one positive experience at a time.

❤️Go at their pace
Every greyhound is different. Some will happily investigate new places straight away, while others may need a little more time to observe before feeling comfortable. Allow your greyhound to explore at a pace that suits them and never force them into situations they’re not ready for. Confidence grows when dogs feel safe enough to make their own choices.

🌱Celebrate the small wins
Confidence isn’t built overnight. Every calm walk past another dog, every new place they explore, every visitor they greet and every new experience they handle is another step forward. Those little victories may seem small, but they soon become the building blocks of a confident, happy greyhound.

🐾Explore together
Gradually introducing your greyhound to new places, people and experiences helps them learn about the world in a positive way. Let curiosity lead the way and remember that quality experiences are far more valuable than trying to do too much too soon.

😊Stay positive
Your greyhound will often look to you for reassurance. Reward calm, confident choices with praise, encouragement and, if they enjoy them, tasty treats. Focusing on what they’re doing well helps build both confidence and trust.

🏡Be their safe place
One of the greatest gifts you can give your greyhound is knowing you’ll always be there to support them. When they trust you to guide them through new experiences, they’re far more likely to grow into a confident companion. Confidence doesn’t come from never being worried, it comes from knowing they have someone they can rely on.

⏳Confidence takes time
Just like people, every greyhound learns differently. Some will gain confidence quickly, while others may take weeks or even months to truly blossom. There is no finish line and no right or wrong pace. What’s important is continuing to support them, celebrating their progress and remembering how far they’ve already come.

Remember, a confident greyhound isn’t one who has seen everything… it’s one who knows you are right by their side💙

🐾We’d love to hear from you! What helped your greyhound grow in confidence after coming home? Was it discovering a favourite walking spot, making a new dog friend or simply learning that the sofa was theirs too? Share your experiences in the comments and help inspire others beginning their own greyhound’s home journey👇
