Very proud of Amber who came 2nd in her first Dressage competition. Cassidy enjoyed both the girls pampering, washing his white bits and brushing him while he munched on hay until he looked fit for a pony party with plaits in his mane and tail - they did a fabulous job! After the competition they unplaited him and he was given apples and carrots which he thoroughly approved of! Well done to Amber and Ava for caring for Cassidy so well, what a little dream team they are 🥰 and what a fabulous pony to take such good care of Amber.

“Take Away Tuesday” 🤔💭

What are you doing for your pet this week to keep them entertained and moving? (Feel free to post photos in the comments, it’s great to share ideas!)

➡️ Can you provide a new form of enrichment for them?
➡️ Can you give them some supervised time out of their enclosure?
➡️ Can you improve their accommodation, making it larger for them?

The Rabbit Welfare Association have some ideas about enrichment:

We had a sad farewell this year, our dear Stella bunny as she was always known here had become very frail and started to get infections that couldn’t be managed anymore, she had made it 15 years since she was left with us after her owner decided rabbit ownership wasn’t for them, we’d had her on holiday and she was only about 3 months old when she arrived for a 6 week stay and it was very easy to keep her as she was such a lovely girl. As our pets age I strongly believe we want them to thrive and not just survive. One of the things we can do for our pets is monitor them and be ready to say goodbye when they start to decline with age or health issues that can’t be rectified rather than them struggle. A lady once told me better to go a week to early than a week to late and they suffer. That’s what happened with Stella, she had started to just survive. The vet told me if she had made it another couple of years she’d been a world record age!

Dog owners please be aware of the new law about dogs attacking and worrying livestock, this applies to when farmers are moving animals on roads and footpaths, it also applies to any form of worrying, even dogs running fence lines, dogs on leads (like extension leads) can be deemed as worrying. It is worth reading. It also extends to worrying or attacking lamas and I believe horses, police and livestock owners will be able to act and so please protect your dogs and the livestock by ensuring they can’t get out of your gardens, that even when on a lead they are under control 🥰

New law now in effect strengthening protections for sheep, cows and other farm animals saving famers thousands of pounds each year.

Apologies but Ulcombe Hill will be closed until the 29th and the little lanes to detour are not great. I’d recommend anyone coming from the A20 Maidstone side to come to me via Leeds Castle Road, heading for Headcorn but turn left just past the Weald of Kent Golf Course and then right into Stickfast Lane and Left at the end of that lane and you will see the bungalow 🏡 Apologies, for any inconvenience 🙏

This is where animals are so good for children (if the child is supervised when they are young and taught how to correctly handle a pet so as not to hurt or frighten it). Amber has been raised with the animals as a big part of life here and at 11 she can be trusted to sit quietly with Harley her guinea pig and you can just see her unwind and relax as I’m doing my pet duties. Amber is planning on working in animal care and so has just started her journey in Young Farmers with the aim of a career working in either animal conservation or a Zoo educating visitors in conservation and animal facts. I’ve got to admit with Amber constantly researching various species she’s now giving her old Mum a run for my money on animal facts!!! Could we be looking at the future of PetPals…move aside Mother!! 😂
