update
Hams wasn’t himself today. Took him in the arena and he started off ok in walk, then trot work was very stuffy and very reluctant to go forward and ducking behind the contact a lot. Popped him into canter to have a feel and see if that helped him, he cantered ok, put my leg on to ask for a bit more and he shot across the diagonal and did the biggest buck swishing his tail and became stuffy. He was trying. Then we walked for a few minutes to regroup and in the back of my head I knew he was trying to tell me something but couldn’t pin point it. Went to ask for trot again and he jacked right up, ears were up my nostrils, threatening to rear and he was grunting. He wasn’t comfortable. So I patted him and called it a day. Walked him round the arena to cool off and let him chill and gave him lots of pats to tell him it’s ok. Then I figured out what was wrong. Being a sensitive bean he is, the flush of grass that’s come through is causing his hind gut a lot of grief. He’s more spooky than normal, not wanting to sit on his bum, not wanted to lift through his back, hence ducking behind the contact and not wanting to go forward as it means pushing from behind. He told me, I listened and ordered his easigut with psyllium husk straight away with thanks to Radical Wellness. He’s very good at telling you when something isn’t right, I just have to try and figure out what it is causing him to be uncomfortable 🧡
