What do scuba diving and dog behaviour work have in common?

I watched a social media post recently of someone preparing for a scuba dive from a boat.

As a former scuba dive master, I noticed something immediately: Uncertainty.

The diver repeatedly checked their mask, looked back towards the crew for reassurance, hesitated before entering the water, and once in, their mask slipped off completely. No safety signals.

iIt reminded me why good diving practice relies so heavily on preparation, communication, and trusted systems. It keeps us safe!

In diving, we use our dive partner to check our equipment, we have safety briefings, our own equipment checks, and clear signals for a reason, not to make things complicated, but to keep people safe.

I think the same principle applies when people seek help and support with their dogs.

Most owners contact a dog behaviourist because something feels uncertain, stressful, or emotionally overwhelming. In those moments, the experience, professionalism, and accountability of the person guiding and supporting you really matters.

Not all advice is equal.
Not all credentials are equal.
And not all approaches place safety and welfare first.

Whether underwater or working with a family dog, trust is built through calm expertise, preparation, and responsibility.

Work with people who make both you and your dog feel supported.

Are you ready to protect your family?

One of the hardest truths for dog owners to face is when their beloved pet displays signs of aggression towards them or their family. Growling, lunging, guarding behaviour, or snapping are not “just phases” to ignore, they are communicating, warning signs that deserve attention, guidance, and action.

“He’s a puppy, he’ll grow out of it”…..or is he growing into it?!

Aggression in dogs doesn’t always mean it’s a “bad dog.” It’s often due to fear, anxiety, testing or learning boundrues, a lack of structure, or unresolved behavioural issues. But without the right awareness and support, these behaviours can quickly escalate, putting your family, visitors, and even your dog at risk of harm or even prosecution!

The good news; early intervention can make a huge difference, and shorter working program. It’s about the relationship and the environment.

As parents, and pet owners, we all want the same thing: a safe home and a balanced, calm dog. Seeking help is not a sign of failure, it’s a sign of strength and responsibility.

If your dog is showing aggressive behaviours, now is the time to act, right now, before a stressful situation becomes a serious and painful incident.

Please, reach out today, DM, and we can discuss how you can access professional behavioural support, training strategies, and practical steps to help restore calm, trust, and safety in your home.

Your children’s safety or indeed your parents safety are all worth it.

If I told you that you could learn a new language in just one morning…would you book today?

Well, the truth is, you can!

You see, many people are telling me that their dogs are suffering with separation anxiety.

A condition with varying degrees of behaviour, which can result in the dog becoming so stressed they constantly bark, bite, defecate, urinate or even chew or lick themselves sore.

But fear not, there is good news. The root cause is human behaviour….it’s our fault! So if we change our behaviour, then the dog will too!

With simple achievable steps, your dog will return to being calm and balanced again, which is their default position.

I teach you how to apply dog logic, how to communicate with your dog so they understand you. And you can do this while the kettle is boiling!

So if you want to become bi-lingual, and learn how to communicate with your dog in just one morning or afternoon then I’d love to help you.

Here to help you build a bond that you’ve always wanted.

Can you help me?

My dog is so reactive towards other dogs!

Client case study:

Client was becoming increasingly frustrated and concerned about their dogs reactive behaviour so they visited their Vet.

Would getting their dog neutered or spayed help? Would medication?
Vet recommended they seek a behaviourist and recommended they contact me.

Client booked a home behavioural consultation which included:

• Dog’s character, confidence and temperament assessment.
• Social skills tested using my own dogs.
• Full explanation of root cause of behaviour.
• Demonstrations on how to avoid or manage their dog.
• Provided with a working program.
• A written summary report.
• Follow-up review phone call.
• On going support (if required).
• Veterinary practice updated, and copy of report.

Testimonial
"Justin came out to see two of our dogs and clearly understands a dogs psychology extremely well. He explained why dogs behave the way they do and gave us lots of practical ways to try and get on top of some unwanted behaviours. He had so much time and patience to go through things multiple times. Highly recommend!"

Should I rehome my dog?

I don’t know what to do. Can you help me?

This is a question that I’m asked, often on the phone, and prior to meeting the family.

As a general rule, most behaviours can be modified, resulting in the dog becoming calm and balanced. While some struggle with their environment.

However, in my experience, harmony can only be achieved if the client has the capacity and capability to meet the requirements of their dog. And when a dog is displaying aggression, can the risk be safely managed? Hence the owner may fail and not the dog.

Owner education and awareness is crucial. You cannot do this alone, so don’t be hard on yourself. Searching for answers online can be hit or miss, and may even make the situation worse.

That’s why is super important that you receive the following:

✅ An honest initial phone call.
✅ A home visit.
✅ An assessment of your dogs current character, confidence and temperament.
✅ A diagnose of the root cause.
✅ A demonstration and explanation of new ways to communicate with your dog.
✅ A working program to support change.
✅ A written summary report.
✅ And continuous support (perhaps in person) along this journey of modifying the dogs (and your) behaviour and communication skills.

If you’re ready then I’m here to support you.

Did your dog bite you or your child recently?

You are not alone. Families in this situation often feel isolated. However, help, support and solutions are available.

I’m Justin, a dog behaviourist specialising in dogs that react aggressively towards their family, I have helped many families who found themselves in the same position as you.

All too often, it is because us humans apply human logic and reason to the situation or our dog’s behaviour. I teach you what I call “dog logic”.

Human “My dog is resting in the hallway”
Dog “I’m claiming this area in the hallway”

Human “He likes to play with a stick”
Dog “An opportunity to show and remind them….”

By understanding your dog’s thinking and available options, you too can begin to
re-shape your dog’s behaviour resulting in them becoming balanced and calm.
