๐พ๐พ Dog Walks in Grass? Hereโs What You Need to Know! ๐ถ๐จ
Grass seeds might look harmless โ but they can cause serious problems for your dog.
After walks through long grass, those pesky seeds can attach to your dogโs coat and work their way into sensitive areas.
In some cases, they can even pe*****te the skin, leading to infections and hidden pain. ๐ฃ
* Pe*******on: Their sharp, pointed ends enable them to pierce the skin and burrow in. ๏ฟฝ
* Migration: Once inside, they can travel long distances within the body, potentially reaching vital organs. ๏ฟฝ
* Infection: Grass seeds can carry bacteria, leading to infections and abscesses. ๏ฟฝ
* Discomfort: They cause irritation, pain, and inflammation, leading dogs to lick, scratch, or bite at the affected area. ๏ฟฝ
* Location: Grass seeds can lodge in paws, ears, eyes, nose, and other body parts.
๐ง Hot spots to check after a walk:
๐ Between the paw pads
๐ In and around the ears
๐๏ธ Eyes and eyelids
๐ฆด Armpits and groin
๐ถ Under long ears (Spaniels especially!)
๐ Higher-risk dogs include:
โ๏ธ Long-coated breeds
โ๏ธ Double and wool-coated breeds
โ๏ธ Dogs with long ears
โ๏ธ Breeds low to the ground (grass brushes against them more!)
๐ After a walk, always give your dog a quick check.
Use your fingers or a brush to gently remove any seeds before they become a problem.
โ ๏ธ Once a grass seed enters the skin, it can travel internally, making it hard to detect โ and potentially very painful.
๐ As your groomer, I always check for grass seeds during every appointment and remove any I can see. Your dogโs comfort and health come first!
๐ Donโt wait for a problem to show โ make grass seed checks a regular habit.
๐พ Your dog will thank you! โค๏ธ
