I’m just writing this to make all of my customers fully aware that I do operate on a strict no flea policy. With the warmer weather coming, this does now mean that fleas are much more likely to be present on your pets. Your pets will be turned away or sent home if I find live fleas and you may be charged in full for your appointment, along with an added fee on top if I have to buy flea bombs and have to cancel my other appointments in order to carry out an extensive clean.
As well as your groomer, I am also a dog owner myself. So I understand that fleas are a natural part of a dog’s life. They are not anything to be ashamed of and are easily picked up from other dogs, cats and wild animals. They are even commonly picked up on walks in long grass during the Summer time. This is because of the squirrels, hedgehogs and other smaller animals living in those woodland areas that carry fleas. All it takes is one to jump onto your pet.
How you treat the issue is what’s important, keeping them up to date with their flea medication regularly will make a huge difference, along with thoroughly cleaning and hoovering your home, especially your pet’s space and hot washing their bedding.
I will have to do thorough checks of all dogs over the next few months of Summer before allowing them to come in for their grooms. Please do not be offended if I ask you if you have noticed any fleas present. It’s simply routine to protect my business.
This isn’t just about the loss of income when having to postpone appointments due to fleas in my work space, this is about the time and money I will have to spend ensuring my salon is clear of fleas before I can work again, along with having to find space to accommodate the postponed appointments which I do not have, while also ensuring that my other customers pets do not leave my space with a flea issue. I have spent many years building my reputable business, you all know how hard I work to take care of your pets while maintaining the hygiene of my establishment.
Please be honest if you think your pet may have fleas, I will always help my customers in any way I can and will rebook you in on my days off for their groom once the issue is resolved.
