🐾 We have the most heartbreaking news 💔. We have lost the smallest in size, but by no means in character part of our team.....Dave 🤎💔.
🐾 Any dog owner knows by taking on a dog as their family, they are settling themselves up for years of happiness and love, but then also heartbreak as we will almost always outlive them. However long they have is never enough, but sometimes life is cruel and takes them away even more prematurely.
🐾 The hardest part about this job is caring and loving so much and knowing you take on dogs as your own and therefor will also have your heart broken.
🐾 Dave was not just a 'client' or "a dog I walk'. He was my little mate 😍. The little reliable face I could always look down and see at the side of my feet, day in, day out. He was with me 4-5 days a week, he's part of my daily routine. Even when Dave was on his crate rest and rehab I still saw Dave and gave him fusses twice a day when I'd pick up and return Maisy.
🐾 Just a few of the many many memories I have of Dave....
🐶 Dave playing me for months having me carry him over things....until his owner told me he's having me on as he jumps up onto the sofa.
The bigger things he genuinely needed carrying over, he'd stand there and look up at me with his little face and wait for me to put my arm out, which he'd climb on and have a little cuddle and carry over. He'd often have an extra minute of cuddle, just because 🥰.
🐶 Dave giving his owners and myself a fair share of scares over the past year or so, mostly for his fondness of eating foreign objects. Even managing to bag himself some expensive surgery because he ate one of the baby's balls. One of the most interesting ones I've watched is him on a walk one day pooing out an entire wet wipe that seemed to keep coming forever.
🐶 Dave not liking Bentley at the start because Bentley would just walk right next to him starring trying to work out why I'd brought a cat or something out on a dog walk 🤷🏻♀️. It took Bentley a while to realise Dave was in fact a dog and another friend.
🐶 Dave being the fun police 👮🏾♂️, when he thought that Bentley, Maisy & Wilson were having too much fun time, he'd go and nip at the back of Bentley's legs to make him stop, which in turn made everyone stop.
🐶 Dave wasn't fussed on the 'play' side most of the time, but when he did decide to join in and have a run around with the bigger dogs, it would make me so happy to see him letting go and having fun.
🐶 Dave's legs immediately stop walking if it rains 🌧️. However if he had a coat on, his legs worked fine 👌🏻. Sometimes if weather was unpredictable I'd take his coat in my pocket and have it ready incase 'the switch went off and his legs stopped'. The second I'd have his coat on him, the switch would go back on.
🐶 Dave stealing a dummy off Ruby one time I thought I could descreetly throw one whilst on a walk to send Ruby back for. He did not want to give that back! I never did that again anyway 🙈.
🐶 Going to collect Dave each day and he'd immediately roll over onto his back for belly tickles before anything else 🥰.
🐶 Dave tripping me up hundreds of times by always walking so close to my feet.
🐶 The way he'd look at me for a sweet when I'd whistle the dogs back and reward them for doing so. He didn't go far enough from me for a recall, but he still got a sweet for the look 😍. He also got his fair share of sneaky ones when the others weren't looking just because he had a way of looking at me and making me feel guilty for not giving him extra!
🐶 The adorable head tilt he'd do which would just melt your heart 😍.
🐶 Just last week on a group field session when he decided he didn't want the session to end so protested by not coming back to the van. It's made me smile having that as my last trip with him 😍😊.
🐾 Dave could go in any group with any dog because he just got on with life. He'd also put anyone in their place he felt needed telling, mainly the bigger boys who wouldn't dream of questioning Dave's authority.
🐾 Dave absolutely smashed his recovery being such a good patient for his owners ❤️🩹 and I'm just so glad he went out having being back enjoying walks with his owners and most recently being back loving life with some of his pack in field sessions.
🐾 I am so grateful to his owners for having let me spend time with Dave on his last day, when all they probably wanted was to have him to themselves 🤎💔. Thankyou 💞.
🐾 As the saying goes, "if love could have saved you, you'd have lived forever" as we all love Dave 🤎.
🐾 RIP Dave, you will always be in my heart 💔🤎. My Sam, Charlie & Tom 🌈 will be up there waiting to be the friends you had here in Bentley and Ruby.
