We’ve had lots of new followers recently, so I thought I’d say a proper hello 👋

I’m Emma, and this is Finn.

I don’t just work for The Canny Company I use the products with my own dog every single day. Finn wasn’t born knowing how to walk nicely on a lead (shockingly 😅), and like most owners, I’ve done the muddy walks, the training resets, and the “why are you towing me down the pavement?” moments.

That’s exactly why I care so much about what we share here.

We believe:

23 years. Still family-run. Still welfare-led.

23 years ago, Scottish horseman Brian Smith had an idea.

We refined it as dog trainers into the design you see today - shaped by real dogs, real owners and real walks.

In the early days, we packed orders around the kitchen table late into the night. We worked with rescue centres, asking them to bring out their hardest-to-walk dogs - the strong pullers volunteers struggled to manage.

As trainers, we knew loose lead walking was possible. The Canny Collar helped bridge the gap, giving owners practical, kind support so they could enjoy walks while building those skills.

We’ve never aimed to compete with trainers - only to work alongside good training. The Canny Collar isn’t a restraint. It’s designed to be gentle, to reduce pressure on the sensitive trachea, and to help move away from dogs choking at the end of a lead.

Over time, we’ve become known not just for the Canny Collar, but for a range of leads that support every stage of dog walking - with more thoughtful ideas still to come.

We still support rescues today - and that’s only possible because people choose to buy from us.

23 years in. Still practical. Still trusted.
