Sheila Williams Baby Massage

Sheila Williams Baby Massage An opportunity to learn how to massage your baby in a friendly local group or in your own home. Welcome to my Sheila Williams Baby Massage page.

Hello my name is Sheila. Having spent many years working with children and families as a health visitor and specialist nurse for cared for children I feel passionately about the value of touch, early communication and emotional connection to the healthy development of babies and children. As a Mum of three adult children and more recently a Grandma I recognise that we all want to do our best to me

et the needs of our babies and children. We learn from our babies and children along the way. This has led me to train with the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) and become a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI). Training with IAIM was a great experience, it has helped me to learn much more about the benefits of touch and baby massage. IAIM's purpose is to promote nurturing touch and communication through training, education and research so that parents, caregivers and children are loved, valued and respected throughout the world community. This means that I can now offer small friendly supportive group classes consisting of 5 weekly sessions using the IAIM programme with up to eight parents and their pre-crawling babies in community venues. Massage oil, handouts and refreshments are provided. Individual sessions or very small groups (2-3) can be arranged in your own home. Please contact me to discuss. In addition I have a special interest in adoptive babies and children as well as children with special needs. If you have any special requirements please ask. Thank you for reading.

In the gentle art of infant massage, love truly is the language. Every soft touch, every soothing stroke, becomes a way of saying “I see you, I love you, I’m here.”

Infant massage isn’t just calming for your little one—it deepens connection, builds trust, and nurtures both hearts.

Take a few minutes each day to create this sacred pause together. Your touch is the safest place your baby will ever know.

For over 14 years, we’ve been proud to support thousands of families across Cheshire East, right when they’ve needed it most.

Smile Group was founded by Ruth and Nat after spotting a huge gap in community support for parents. Today, we continue that mission through weekly peer support groups in Crewe, Congleton & Macclesfield, 1:1 home visits, talking therapy, and monthly family sessions.

In a world of filtered feeds and perfect posts, we believe you deserve a space where you don’t have to filter your feelings. And that's what we offer; non-judgmental, compassionate support so you can show up exactly as you are.

If you or anyone you know needs support, please get in touch [email protected] 💜

Love this post from The Babe in Arms 💜

It’s been a funny old week, I’m super tired and life is really busy.

This old chestnut keeps popping back up. So many mothers before birth sold this idea of “bouncing back”, so many women post birth feeling like they should look differently to how they do.

Stop it! Your body has just grown a whole new person with elements of yourself, you’re responsible for their perfect fingernails and eyelashes (as well as their circulatory system and heart chambers), that’s kind of a big deal!

When pregnant you carry a greater blood volume, you get swollen, you store extra weight so you have on-board energy to care for our womb fruit and stores to help your body make milk. You don’t need to get your body back, it hasn’t gone anywhere. You have transformed into a phenomenal baby making human. You are forever changed both emotionally and physically. You are the most beautiful you have ever been!

The world would never ask a butterfly to go back to being a caterpillar, just let that sink in…..

With love from me for you xx

Bonding Through Touch

Infant massage is more than just soothing strokes — it’s a beautiful way to build a deep connection with your little one. Every gentle touch nurtures love, trust, and emotional warmth, helping your baby feel safe and cherished.

Because sometimes, the most powerful way to say “I love you” is through your hands. ❤️

The huge importance of relationships between parents/ main carers and their young babies really matters to me. Towards the end of my NHS career working with children and families I decided to train with International Association of Infant Massage as a certified massage instructor. I love spending time with small groups of parents and babies teaching baby massage.

Why baby massage?
For thousands of years in some parts of the world babies have been massaged, with families passing the skills of baby massage to the next generation using slow rhythmic strokes.
Our skin is the largest sensory organ of our body. It has many important roles in protecting the insides of our body as well as working with our brain to give us our sense of touch. In the first few years of life nerve connections between our brain and different parts of our body are growing at an incredibly rapid pace.
There is a much increased understanding of neuroscience with research into how our sense of touch develops and how amazing dedicated c-tactile nerve fibres can offer a sense of emotional soothing to the babies brain when stimulated by slow rhythmic stroking such as in baby massage.

It is wonderful to see how parents and their babies benefit from baby massage, enjoy spending time together and supporting each other in our small relaxed groups. https://bookwhen.com/sheilawilliamsbabymassage

When we talk about infant massage, we often focus on the benefits for the baby. But something equally precious happens for parents: touch nurtures, listens, and comforts.
Through massage, mothers and fathers rediscover a deep channel of communication, made of small gestures that speak the language of love.
Massaging your baby also means taking time for yourself—to observe, to feel, to breathe together.
In the IAIM journey, we support parents in experiencing this moment as a shared nurturing ritual, not just a “care” activity for the child.
Massage is relationship. And in relationship, we are transformed.

Absolutely—both parents are warmly welcome in IAIM classes! Our sessions are designed to include and support all caregivers, whether it’s mom, dad, partner, grandparent, or adoptive parent.

When both parents attend, they each have the opportunity to learn, practice, and bond with their baby in a relaxed, nurturing environment. Many families find that baby massage classes become a treasured shared experience, building trust not only with the baby but also between the parents.

It’s not about doing it “right” or being the “main” parent. It’s about being present, attentive, and loving. Whether you take turns, massage together, or just observe while your partner massages, your involvement matters.

At IAIM, we celebrate all kinds of families—and the many ways they show love through touch.

🧡 Love grows stronger when it’s shared.

💜 IAIM Baby Massage

Crying is your baby’s first language. It’s how they tell you they need something—comfort, food, a cuddle, a change, or just your presence.

Crying is not a sign of failure or something to “fix.” It’s communication. And when you respond with calm, consistent care, your baby learns that the world is safe and that their feelings matter.

In IAIM classes, we don’t try to stop the crying—we help parents listen to it. You’ll learn to understand your baby’s cues and respond with loving touch, presence, and patience.

Sometimes, massage helps soothe a crying baby. Other times, it helps the parent stay grounded and connected, even when things feel overwhelming.

Crying can be hard. But you are not alone. IAIM classes offer support, information, and community—for you and your baby.

💧 Every tear is a message. Every touch is a response.

💜 If you would like to learn how to massage your baby Sheila Williams Baby Massage will be running a five week course from Friday 5th Sept at Gawsworth Village Hall more information below https://bookwhen.com/sheilawilliamsbabymassage

You can begin massaging your baby from birth! In IAIM classes, we welcome babies of all ages, and we support parents in adapting strokes and rhythms to suit their baby’s needs.

For newborns, massage is introduced gradually, respecting their sensory threshold and natural adjustment to life outside the womb. Even gentle touch and eye contact are part of early communication. Over time, massage becomes a beautiful routine that supports development, bonding, and relaxation.

Starting early helps parents feel more confident in responding to their baby's cues and emotions. However, if your baby is already a few months old—or even crawling—it’s never too late! IAIM instructors are trained to guide families at every stage.

What matters most is not when you start, but how present and connected you are.

✨ Massage is not a race. It’s a relationship.
