I don't even know where to start

It was hard work! It was fun, I had a blast and a laugh!
I had ended up very emotionally overwhelmed by Sunday! But that's just neuro divergence for you 🤯☢️🤯

My dogs did absolutely fantastic as did Daniel at looking after them due to me helping run the show, managing the results table, first aid and h&s 🙈🙈 let's not talk about that!

Results - well I don't think my hand has ever been so sore from writing so many certificates which means that everyone had a successful weekend! Wonderful to see so many different names each day!

Being part of the committee is a big role, it takes a team to keep the show running smoothly

As always Daniel enjoys car parking, and chatting to everyone in the mornings

Reggie - well Reggie as always came out and did great hoops! He didn't suffer from any incontinence in the ring when running, he managed the ground well, one little slip during a torrential rain! Daniel and Reggie did really well, I wasnt there to support Daniel walking courses, advising him how to run reg on specific turns but when I walked the courses the judges done such an amazing job there was no need to support Reggie on turns because of how wonderfully smooth and safe the courses were! Reggie only didn't run on one day due to timings, the rain and Daniel's lovely trip out for the day with a fellow competitor 🙈🙈

Reggie biggest achievement 1st place with Daniel with full point and great speed taking the win! This doesn't happen often, but is always a proud achievement with his long medical list of conditions
1st place, 2nd place and 30pt clears achieved!

Raya - the little monkey achieved above expectations bringing homes the gold too! What a clever pooch! Her journey hasn't been easy, filled with lameness, bed rest, medication, fitness, rehab, hormones and just feeling beaten by unknown lameness!
I made the decision a few months ago to strip her of rest and up her pain meds and it's the best decision we made - you can see rayas brightness starting to glow, the happiest soul in the world!
Her progress is just astounding - no startline freeze, realase on first cue, runs! We mix up how we handle, a few courses we race off the start line making it fun, the other we play real hoops and work on our distance and confidence - this balance keeps her happy!
She has progressed up to k2!
1st places for Raya!

Turns out bingo is alright fun, i need to pay more attention to when I have a line and call it out earlier but I won a prize and entry fee back 😂

Our winter goals will be rayas strength, stamina and fitness!

All in all I have really thoroughly enjoyed BK9’s The Gathering

I now require new ankles, knees and left hand from all the writing 🙃 I don't even want to know how many steps I took or how many times i got wet in torrential downpour

2027 here we come 🏆💥🏆

Me Rolley having a snooze after his 121 session!

His owners came for a little tip up session to discuss adolescence frustration and how to develop a more solid recall during adolescence due to his ears switching off and the environment becomes alot more interesting! Independence increase!

We have established a plan moving forward! Increasing off lead time using a long line for managing good choices and to reduce any frustrations, increased reinforcement rate for engagement to owners and increased reinforcement rate of check in and voluntary recall; less calling, less nagging and allowing choices to be made for a quicker learning process for Rolley

Hoopers is a fun, exciting and low-impact dog sport where you and your dog work together to navigate a course using hoops, tunnels, barrels and other obstacles — without the need for jumping.

Our Beginners Hoopers sessions are designed for dogs and handlers who are new to Hoopers, so no previous experience is needed.

🐶 What will we work on?

During the sessions, we'll introduce you and your dog to:

Understanding and confidently navigating Hoopers equipment
Building focus and connection with your dog
Sending your dog through hoops and tunnels
Developing distance between dog and handler
Introducing directional cues
Building confidence and independence
Reward-based training and motivation
Putting individual skills together into short sequences
Most importantly — having fun together! 🎉
💙 Who is it suitable for?

Beginners Hoopers is suitable for:

🐾 Dogs who have never tried Hoopers before
🐾 Dogs and handlers wanting to learn the basics
🐾 Dogs who enjoy working for food, toys or other rewards

🐾 Dogs who aren't suitable for traditional agility

No previous Hoopers experience is required.

Beautiful puppy socials during our class! 💗💗

Nova and Eddie learning how to communicate and read each others body language! Social communication is a very important part of interactions

Dogs communicate primarily through body posture, movement, facial expressions, tail position, ears and behaviour. Importantly, individual signals should not be interpreted in isolation. The dog's whole body, context and behavioural history need to be considered.

🟢 Comfortable, relaxed dog
Typical signs can include:
Loose, wiggly body
Soft facial expression
Relaxed mouth
Natural ear position
Normal breathing
Tail moving naturally with the body
Choosing to explore and sniff
Voluntarily approaching people or dogs
Ability to disengage and return to their handler
A relaxed dog isn't necessarily trying to interact — being able to calmly choose not to interact is also a positive sign.

🟡 Early signs of discomfort or stress
These are often subtle and easily missed:
Lip licking
Yawning when not tired
Turning the head away
Looking away
Sniffing suddenly
Paw lifting
Shaking off
Blinking more frequently
Moving away or increasing distance
Becoming unusually still
Ears changing position
Tail becoming lower or less mobile
These behaviours can be described as displacement or conflict behaviours, depending on the context.

Jeeeez Louise what a busy week we've had here at Pawfect Pets!

We watch an eclipse
The dogs went for a beautiful walk with their friend miss daisy the spaniel
We had Fenland Hoopers first Hoopers show which was great to attend! Raya smashed out 3/4 clear rounds resulting in 2 1st places
We've maintained the paddock
Been working within the amc at my part-time job at the local college
Ive looked after so many different species this week from rodents to armadillo
Prepping for student return in September for their new academic year
Ethical approval on my thesis returned, slowly chipping away at the heavy work load
And today training lots of wonderful dogs and puppies!

🐾 Loose Lead Walking Starts Before the First Walk!

One of the most common things puppy owners tell me is:

“My puppy pulls as soon as we leave the house!” 😂

But loose lead walking is a skill we can start teaching before your puppy ever goes on their first walk outside.

🌿 Start in the garden

Your garden is a fantastic low-distraction environment to teach your puppy what the lead means. You can practise:

🐶 Following you
🐶 Checking in with you
🐶 Walking beside you
🐶 Changing direction with you
🐶 Stopping when you stop
🐶 Choosing to stay close
🐶 Learning that a loose lead makes good things happen

Keep sessions short, fun and rewarding. We aren't expecting a tiny puppy to walk perfectly for 20 minutes — we're building a behaviour that will become useful over time.

🌎 Then comes the outside world…

Your puppy's first walks are going to be VERY exciting!

New smells.
New people.
Cars.
Dogs.
Birds.
Leaves blowing around.
Different surfaces.
And approximately 4,000 things that suddenly need investigating! 😂

So don't expect perfection.

Instead, use those first walks to continue practising the skills you've already introduced at home.

Reward your puppy for:
✨ Looking back at you
✨ Choosing to walk beside you
✨ Keeping the lead loose
✨ Responding when you change direction
✨ Checking in voluntarily

And remember — pulling isn't your puppy being naughty. They're learning how the world works.

If pulling consistently gets them where they want to go, pulling can become a very successful behaviour!

That's why starting early matters. ❤️

We're not trying to stop puppies from exploring — we want them to explore AND learn that staying connected to their person is rewarding.

🐾 Loose lead walking isn't about making your puppy walk rigidly at your side.

It's about teaching them how to move through the world with you while still having opportunities to sniff, explore and be a dog.

Start in the garden.
Build the foundations.
Keep it fun.
Then gradually increase the distractions.

Little steps now = much easier walks later! 🐕💕

🐾 CALLING ALL HOOPERS DOGS! 🐾
I’m looking for 30-55 dogs and their handlers to take part in my university thesis research study investigating:
🐶 Does massage therapy affect behaviours in dogs waiting in a queue to compete in Hoopers?
I’m particularly interested in whether massage may help dogs feel more relaxed and reduce behaviours associated with motivational conflict while waiting at the front of a competition-style Hoopers queue.
🏆 What will your dog do?
Your dog will take part in a simulated Hoopers competition environment, including:
🐕 Waiting in a queue with other dogs
🎥 Being video recorded while waiting at the front of the queue
🏃 Running a short Hoopers course
💆 Receiving a standardised 15-minute massage during the study
🔄 Completing the testing conditions required for the research
The aim is to create a realistic competition environment so that I can observe and analyse canine behaviour while dogs are waiting for their turn.
📋 What do you need to do?
Before taking part, you will need to:
✅ Read the Participant Information Sheet
✅ Complete and sign the Participant Consent Form
✅ Have your veterinary surgeon complete the Veterinary Referral/Consent Form
✅ Attend the allocated data collection session with your dog
All study procedures and requirements will be explained fully in the Participant Information Sheet before you decide whether to participate.
🐾 Who am I looking for?
I am looking for dogs who are:
• Experienced in Hoopers
• Comfortable working around other dogs
• Able to wait in a queue around other dogs
• Physically fit and suitable for participation
• Able to work off lead in the testing environment
There will be 30-55 spaces available, so places will be limited.

📅 Data collection: 6th September : PROVISIONAL DATE.

Nova came to explore the field today with Charlotte! She's a tiny golden retriever who will be learning all about Hoopers later in life once we've covered the puppy foundations ❤️❤️

Today she explored some hoops and the tango mat on her own and we discussed the world of shaping for puppy training and making good choices!

We also had good cuddles, kisses, met Raya in the van, Raya likes to use paws for play so they will have a good meet and greet once nova is bigger so Raya doesn't squish her ❤️
