โญ First UK cases of Bluetongue serotype 3 (BTV-3) for the 2025 season confirmed โญ

Last weekend sheep were detected in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire with typical symptoms of high fever, lethargy, and painful feet whilst infected cattle were identified on premovement testing in Herefordshire.

The risk of further spread in England is very high, and vaccination remains the only effective way to protect your livestock. Fully vaccinated animals are protected from the worst effects of the Bluetongue virus.

We have vaccine in stock, so please contact us to discuss your vaccination plan and ensure your stock are fully protected this summer.

๐Ÿ„ โญ REDWATER WARNING โญ ๐Ÿ‚

Cattle farmers - we have diagnosed 'Redwater' numerous times in the last few days, resulting in some very sick dairy and suckler cows. Some have recovered with intensive treatment, unfortunately others have been less fortunate. Please be vigilant ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ.

Cases have been seen all around Dorset and Devon, including on fields not normally associated with Redwater ๐ŸŒ. Tick populations are thriving with our warmer winters, and wildlife are thought to spread infected ticks to new areas ๐ŸฆŒ.

Here are some pics sent to us by Abbie, our lab supervisor at our Rampisham HQ.

This disease is spread by ticks, which when they bite inject the parasite Babesia into the cattle's bloodstream. This results in the break down of infected red blood cells causing severe anaemia, and the classic symptom of red coloured urine.

In these pics you can see the dark purple Babesia parasite within individual red blood cells, a selection of ticks, and a sample of urine collected from an infected cow.
