Thanks for visiting Rovers Return Training Academy.

I offer bespoke behaviour packages, specialising in Reactive dogs.

My dog Bert is reactive and I have been working with him to enable him to be safe and reduce his reactions. You can see his progress here and in my blog Bert's Behaviour Blues on the website.

I am a realist and I will never give you false hope. There are no magic wands in dog training, but with my bespoke, targeted behaviour plan, or class content, you will see a noticeable improvement in your dog's behaviour with my support along the way.
My techniques are designed to be time-saving so you are not spending hours training your dogs.

Check out the website roversreturnpetcare.com to see how I can support you with owning the dog of your dreams.

🐾 Choosing someone to train your dog🐾

It's a minefield. Who do you choose?

The girl who will see you and charge Β£20? Someone considerably more expensive?
It can be tempting to go for a cheaper option. Or the person recommended by a mate as she did wonders on your dog.

πŸ‘‰ But this could be false economy.

If that person has not got the skills and knowledge to be an effective trainer then you may have well put that money down the drain.

πŸ‘‰ Just because someone charges higher prices does not mean they are good right!?

Yep. This is an industry that's unregulated. Anyone can set up and charge what they want!

πŸ‘‰ So how do I choose a good trainer who uses kind methods ?

βœ… Ask questions, ask what type of training they do. If they say they don't use rewards or use any other methods avoid!
βœ… check out their FB page - are there pictures and videos of dogs with slip leads, nose halti, yanking etc. Recently a local trainer posted a video training a dog on a local dog friendly fb site. She had the dog on a tight slip lead so it couldn't freely move it was stiff, rigid. Then another force free trainer posted a video of her using loose lead with rewards, the dog was free flowing, wagging its tail, happy 😊 the difference was amazing.
βœ… Ask about their qualifications, are they insured, do they carry out regular CPD? There are many 12 week certified courses do you want your dog trained by someone who has only done 12 weeks of training?
βœ… Are they a member of a professional body? PACT, IMDT and APDT are the go to organisations. They assess their members on their skills.
βœ… for behaviour work do they have a degree or course (s) level 5 or above? Behaviour work is complex. Choose someone that has either been to uni or studied several courses at a higher level.

Education, insurance, membership, advertising, providing you with reports, hall hire, running costs. These need to be covered before profit!

I will always be happy to recommend a local force free trainer, especially of it means that your beloved dog doesn't fall into the hands of a punishment promoting trainer.
A good rule of thumb is, if a piece of equipment is added and changes behaviour its highly likely that the dog is avoiding performing the behaviour due to the pain and discomfort of the item.

Think of that ££ you paid that trainer to tell you to use something like this!? When you could choose a trainer that changes brain function so that the dogs brain doesn't need to behave that way.

It will take time, it may take a bit more money but it will be worth it in the end to see your dog happy. πŸ•

Our Story

I have owned dogs all my life and then Bert and Ernie came into my life, and I became interested in training them, I remember reading a book (which I now know contained some old punishment methods) which caused my dog to not want to come back to me (temporarily, thankfully!) so I looked into it further......... (and a lot of time, effort and money spent)

I am fully qualified in both foundation training and advanced dog training with the association of pet dog trainers I hold a level 4 diploma with the British college of canine studies in dog behaviour and currently volunteer with the dogs trust dog training school. I am also in the early stages of a level 5 advance diploma in dog behaviour. I also hold a level 3 diploma in health and nutrition.

It is important to me that dogs do not suffer at the hands of methods that are aversive and cause pain and fear to dogs. The methods that I use are based upon positive reinforcement, allowing the dog to choose to perform the desired behaviour and are highly rewarded for their efforts. Dogs learn much quicker and retain what they have learnt using reinforcement. We offer 1-2-1 puppy and adult dog training and behaviour modifications.

We are fully insured with pet business insurance for dog training, walking and home visits. Dog walks are also available between 10.30-2.30. All dogs are assessed for suitability prior to walks. We also offer home visits to feed pets (not just dogs) whilst you are at work or away. All types of animals will be considered!
