Spoil Your Dog Day - Sunday 10th August

National Spoil Your Dog Day is celebrated every year on 10th August.🎉
It’s a day to show extra love and appreciation for the joy, loyalty and comfort dogs bring to our lives. Whether it’s with special treats, new toys, a long walk or just quality cuddle time, the goal is simple: make your dog feel like the most loved
pup on the planet. How are you spoiling your four-legged friend this year?

Dog hot pavement awareness
✋ Before walking your dog on a hot day, press the back of your hand to the pavement for 5 seconds
🔥 If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws
🐾 Keep walks safe and paws protected by choosing cooler times of day and paw-friendly surfaces

Meet Eddie the Border Terrier! His owner booked a FREE Summer Smiles dental check - and it may have saved his life. 💚
The check confirmed dental disease and a lump on his gum and he was booked in for a biopsy and dental. On the recommendation of his vet, his owner agreed to pre-op bloods to check that it was safe to proceed.
The blood results led to a scan, which then led to life saving surgery for a serious condition! Eddie made a full recovery – and you can read his full story here:

The fastest land mammal
You’d be forgiven for thinking it’s the cheetah, but asking your dog what they have in their mouth is guaranteed to produce warp speed. 🐕🚀
Sometimes it’s a toy... sometimes it’s something you’d really rather not know about. 🤢 Not all stolen treasures are edible, so if they’re sprinting away with something weird, check twice before it becomes a vet visit!

It’s grass seed season! These barbed seeds easily attach to fur and can burrow
into the skin, causing pain and infection.
Watch for These Signs:
Ears: Head shaking, scratching, and discomfort may indicate a seed lodged in
the ear. These don’t work their way out and may need removal under sedation
or anaesthetic.
Eyes: Redness, weeping, pawing, or squinting can signal a seed under the
eyelid. Prompt vet attention is needed to prevent damage.
Feet: Lameness, licking, swelling, or oozing between toes could mean a seed
has pierced the skin. These can travel up the leg and may cause infections.
Prevention Tips: Avoid areas with long grass during summer. Trim coats, especially around feet, ears, and between toes – particularly important for breeds like spaniels. After walks, check your dog thoroughly and remove any visible seeds.

Oooooh, big stretch
An unspoken rule of pet ownership: If your pet stretches, you have to say “oooooooh BIG stretch!”out loud every time. It doesn’t matter where you are or who is around. No
exceptions, no excuses. We don’t make the rules, we just lovingly enforce them.🐾✨

7th July - World Chocolate Day

On World Chocolate Day, it's sensible to keep in mind that chocolate is poisonous to our canine friends. Try to keep chocolate out of reach of your dog, but if an accident does happen, these are the symptoms you should keep an eye out for. The poison itself takes between 4 and 24 hours to cause signs which include:
🍫 Muscle stiffness
🍫 Tremors
🍫 Vomiting 🍫 Heart arrhythmias and fitting
If you see your dog has eaten chocolate or spot any of these symptoms, call your vet immediately.
