We often get aked to recommend hedgehog houses and having seen this one myself from Riverside Woodcraft, and being their best selling hedgehog house, I would say they are the best on the market. (PS: Not on commission lol)

This could be the best decision you make this year! Do you want to make your garden wildlife-friendly and give a hedgehog a secure home to hibernate in? The Golden Brown Hedgehog House from Riverside Woodcraft is made from solid timber and frame with a lockable lid, and is currently our bestselling model.
• The Golden Brown Hedgehog House is our bestselling model.
• The roof of the hedgehog house is made from 18mm 100% recycled plastic which is water and rot proof.
• The roof allows fantastic insulation for the hedgehogs too, keeping them cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
• Small groves on the inside of the lid prevents water from running inside, keeping the hedgehogs dry in wet weather.
• The hasp and staple, along with the carbine hook, allows you to lock the hedgehog house to keep them safe from predators.
• A small gap created by the ‘porch’ roof creates airflow gaps for the hedgehogs as well.
• The ‘porch’ roof is produced from a mixture of recycled plastics (52%) and kaolin (48%).
• This house was designed to suit hedgehogs in hibernation.
• We also sell a range of houses to suit other needs including feeding.

Firstly, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Humberside Fire and Rescue for generously allowing us to use their station as a base for our rescue efforts throughout this week. Their immediate support has been invaluable in ensuring we have a central hub to operate from as needed.

This evening, our committee, alongside our vet, hosted a virtual meeting from the fire station, bringing together several rescue organisations to discuss the ongoing situation in the North Sea. Collaboration during incidents like this is essential to ensure all rescue teams remain aligned and can offer the best possible support to wildlife.

While we currently have no new information to share, nor do we feel it's appropriate for us to do so, we want to reassure the public that rescue organisations are actively working together. The full impact of this incident is still unknown, but rest assured, wildlife will not be without help.

We'd like to take a moment to acknowledge and thank the BDMLR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue), Humber Nature Partnership, and the RSPCA, who are key members of the Environmental Incident Wildlife Response Plan and will play a vital role in the response moving forward. Their attendance and input during tonight’s meeting were greatly appreciated.

We were also grateful to be joined by representatives from The Wildlife Alliance, Wild Things, Laxey Bird House, the British Wildlife Rehabilitation Council, and, of course, our own team at Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue. Moments like these highlight the incredible strength and unity within the wildlife rescue community.

We’ve been overwhelmed with messages offering help and support — thank you so much to everyone who has reached out. While we may not be able to respond to each message individually, please know that your kindness and concern mean the world to us. At this time, we do not require any additional resources or assistance beyond your continued support. Should that change, we will post any specific requests on our main page.

Please note that we will remain closed tomorrow (with no general admissions) to allow us to focus our efforts where they are most needed. However, we will still be operating an emergency response service where appropriate. If you come across any wildlife in distress, please continue to contact us through our emergency line, and we will do our best to assist.

Finally, our thoughts continue to be with the crews involved, the rescue teams, and all emergency services working tirelessly in response to this incident. Their dedication does not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they are doing.

Thank you once again for standing with us during this time. We will continue to do everything we can to protect and support wildlife.

Thank you,
Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue

Oil Tanker Collision in the North Sea:

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue is aware of a collision between two vessels in the North Sea, off the East Yorkshire coast. One of the vessels involved is believed to be an oil tanker. Our committee has convened to discuss the preparations and care we can provide as a small rescue in the event that oiled wildlife, particularly birds, reach Cleethorpes Beach.

We are currently adapting our oil spill response protocols—originally designed for factory spills—to ensure we are prepared for this incident.

In response, we have set up a dedicated oiled wildlife hotline for reporting affected animals in Cleethorpes: 01472 472662.

We’ll update with other organisations and rescues numbers once we have a firm grasp on the situation.

Additionally, we will be collaborating closely with our partner rescues and have scheduled a meeting with them soon to coordinate efforts.

To focus on preparations and ensure we are fully equipped to handle any wildlife impact, we will be closed for the remainder of the day.

If you spot an oiled bird along our coast, please do not attempt to handle it. Instead, report the sighting via the hotline, and a volunteer will respond as soon as possible.

Finally, our thoughts are with the crew members of the vessels involved, the rescue teams and the emergency services who are working tirelessly in incredibly difficult circumstances. We appreciate their hard work and dedication during this challenging time.

Thank you for your support!

Can You Help Us?

We’re mapping wildlife fatality hotspots on roads to help improve safety for both animals and drivers. Over time, this data could support efforts to work with local authorities to make high-risk areas safer.

If you come across a deceased animal or are aware of one, please report the location—when it’s safe to do so—by:
📍 Dropping a pin on the map provided
📍 Sharing a What3Words location

Hi Everyone.long post PLEASE SHARE AND BE AWARE.
Again i need to put this post on which myself and i know lots of rescues feel very strongly about and upsetting, and it is happening lots and when the babies start to be born and hoglets are out on their own thats when it happens even more, please don't keep the hogs thinking a cage and some food will help because it won't.
HEDGEHOGS are NOT yours to make that decision to keep for days even if you find one in your garden.
WHY DO SOME PEOPLE KEEP THEM FOR ALL THE WRONG REASONS THEN CALL TO SAY THE HOG IS DYING, then asked how long have you had the hog, oh 3 DAYS !!! WHAT!!!🤬
They are out in the day because they have parasites, injuries, wounds you cant see, they are wobbly because they are dehydrated,or have head trauma,or ear mites, not because thats how they walk.
Ringworm which you can catch, believe me you would not want that but if you handled without gloves you could catch it.
Mites,Maggots hatched already eating then from inside, some dont even know they have been laid on by flies,in there eyes, ears, mouths, up their nose private area's.
IF YOU DONT KNOW THEN PLEASE DONT KEEP THE POOR LITTLE ANIMAL HAND IT OVER AS SOON AS YOU FIND IT.
They are cold, you only have to check there gums, whicjh you probably can't do, to see how near to dying they are there underside so cold and there feet, they have no blood supply they are slowly going into shock but still you kept it outside in a cold garage, a shed, stuck it in a rabbit cage with a old t shirt and some hay, trying to feed a baby, with water and dogfood when the ones people are keeping would still be suckling or only just starting to wean,i'm talking babies who need constant heat who would be with a mum kept warm by her furry underbelly,.because you thought it was the best for the hog for days.
THEY WOULD BE IN INCUBATORS,ON CONSTANT HEAT,im talking on a daily basis until they are bigger.
They are not trophies you can show off to friends.
THIS is beyond belief a baby was kept to educated their children about wildlife kept for 2 days then contacted a rescue to say it was dying, and before it got here it died.
2 days of constant handling,by man and children, the noise, the stress the poor baby must have been in i'm sorry but just writing this post fills me up and just makes me so angry when this is happening and the hard work and commitment i and other rescues give to the hedgehogs at our rescues.
Everyday our lives are taken over caring for a hedgehog in the way that we have been trained to do, we have to pick up the pieces from people who decide after days of taking that hog in themselves to look after with no knowledge of these little animals needs .
I give up my own normal daily life to help treat these sick animals as do all rescuers we work hard,it can be exhausting mentally, and its not just one day its everyday you wake up to care for hogs and care all day before you sleep, well not if you have very small hoglets without a mum, then not much of that.
PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU ARE TAKING IN A HOG, they are very complex little animals, what rescues see is different to what you see, even uncurling a hog is hard, but if it is handed over as it should be that hog will get medical help from carers who know what to do, there is a rescue out their who can help, and you WILL HELP THE SICK HOG MORE AND CARING FOR ITS WELFARE IF YOU HAND IT OVER AS SOON AS YOU FOUND IT.

‼️🦔‼️STRIMMER INJURY‼️🦔‼️
‼️PLEASE ALWAYS CHECK FOR HEDGEHOGS WHEN USING ANY GARDEN MACHINERY‼️
I just cant believe I am posting this, but 3 nights ago we received our first strimmer injury of the year from Kirmington. A lady spotted the injured hedgehog whilst walking her dog, and straight away she picked it up, took it home, called me for advice and brought it here. The hedgehog had a 3" deep severe wound across her neck which smelt awful, along with an injury to her leg, which were both highly infected and had been for quite a while.

The very poorly hedgehog was taken to the Blue Cross where their vet advised that due to how severe and deeply infected the leg injury was, the kindest thing was to humanely put her to sleep. You can see from the photos of her neck wound that her spikes have been cut and are blunt from the strimmer, but you can't see that the wound is long, deep, has a lot of puss in it and crusty.

Other rescues throughout the country are also receiving strimmer injuries, which is always heartbreaking and could easily be avoided if people would only check before they used a strimmer. Please check areas very carefully before putting your strimmer into overgrown areas. Hedgehogs make their nests in the undergrowth and areas that have long overgrown grass, brambles, shrubs, leafy, pampas grass etc and they can't easily be seen. A hedgehogs natural defence is to curl up into a ball, they will NOT run away.

Many hedgehogs come to us each year with injuries from strimmers: legs, feet and noses strimmed off and severe lacerations to the face and body. The person that strimmed this little girl didn't check for sleeping hedgehogs and she would have been in excruciating pain for quite some time before she was eventually found struggling.

More care must be taken by people who use strimmers, lawnmowers and hedge cutters, every year hundreds of hedgehogs are seriously injured or killed by garden machinery.

Not all hedgehogs hibernate so please do keep putting food and water out.
Even ones that do hibernate can have periods of arousal where they will have a quick drink and bite to eat so it is incredibly important to carry on supporting them.

All good pet shops and garden centres will stock Brambles Hedgehog Foods and if you want to have a look at some of our stockists on our web site click the link 😀

As always, Wildlife Rescues are over-worked and over-run with patients so if you can help them out in a way please do so.

Anyone coming home from Lincoln that could pick up a hedgehog from Carholme Road, near the Grandstand, and bring to Charlie's Hedgehog Care in Holton Le Clay please. Or even meet me in Louth after 7pm.
Laura was walking along the river Witham and found this little one nestled in the grass. After contacting me she scooped him up and took him home. Could well have been washed out of its nest as the river is flooded. A very lucky hedgehog but needs to come into rescue.
Please text or call 07887835734 if you can help us. Address will be given to collector.
Thank you, Kerry.
