🐱 A little pet food awareness post 🐱

I’ve noticed more and more beautifully marketed “boutique” cat foods appearing on shelves and social media — often promoting things like human-grade ingredients, high protein, or natural meat fillets.

While many of these foods are perfectly good, it’s really important to check whether the food is labelled 'complete' or 'complementary.'

✅ Complete food = contains the full range of nutrients a cat needs as their main diet.

⚠️ Complementary food = designed to be fed alongside a complete diet, not on its own. These products are often made from simple ingredients like tuna, prawns, chicken breast, or fish broth only.

The problem is that the wording can sometimes be very small and easy to miss on the packaging. If a cat is fed complementary food as their only diet long-term, they can develop nutritional deficiencies because cats need specific vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to stay healthy.

The best thing we can do is make informed choices:
✔️ Check labels carefully
✔️ Make sure your cat’s main food says 'complete'
✔️ Use complementary foods as treats, toppers, or occasional meals unless advised otherwise by your vet

After all, a well-fed cat is a happy cat 🐾

✨ A very special reunion ✨

Back in 2018, I first had the pleasure of looking after these two lovely cats 🐾

After their owners had a few house moves, I hadn’t seen them for quite some time… so I was absolutely delighted to be asked to care for them again recently.

Over the last eight years they’ve entered their golden years, and one of them now has a serious medical condition. Naturally, this made their owners very unsure about going away—but knowing my experience as a Veterinary Nurse gave them the reassurance and confidence to take their holiday.

I felt honoured to be trusted with their care again after all this time.

Thank you so much for the beautiful orchid and the lovely card—it meant so much and was very much appreciated 🙏

From 2018 to now… a lovely reunion 🐾💛

This handsome little gentleman enjoyed some cozy pop-in visits while his humans were away 💛 From comfy beds in his favourite spots, plenty of head scratches, his daily medication to his own feeding regime, he was well cared for.

Keeping your pets happy, comfortable, and loved—even when you’re not there—is what it’s all about!

🐾 Cat Water Fountains – Great Tools When Used Well! 💧⛲

Cat water fountains can be a brilliant way to encourage hydration—many cats are naturally drawn to running water, which can support their kidney and urinary health and wellbeing.

That said, there are a few commonly overlooked tips that can make a big difference:

💧 KEEP IT FRESH
Even though the water circulates, it still needs topping up and changing very regularly to stay fresh and appealing.

🧼 KEEP IT CLEAN
Fountains can develop a slimy residue over time, so regular cleaning (including all parts) is essential.

🔄 CHANGE THE FILTER
Filters don’t last forever—replacing them as recommended by the manufacturer helps keep the water clean.

🥣 GIVE THEM A CHOICE
Some cats prefer a simple bowl, so it’s always a good idea to offer both options

📍 PICK THE RIGHT SPOT
Many cats prefer their water away from their food, so placement can really help encourage drinking.

💡 It's all about:- clean, fresh, accessible water your cat actually wants to drink.

A well-maintained fountain can be a fantastic addition to your cat’s routine 🐱💙
