This week's posts started with a Swan and theyre ending with a Swan too...
Yet another youngster who has got himself in bother. As we said earlier in the week, at this time of year the young are chased away by parents to find their own territories. Unfortunately for this one he's sustained a cut to his leg that needs some treatment. A huge thanks to East Lincs Emergency Vets and Black Sheep Vets for their care.
I do want to remind people that we dont actually have full facilities for swans and we also dont have a rescue team. If someone is available we will help capture animals but it does rely entirely on someone being available. This is particularly difficult when it comes to larger animals like swans, foxes and badgers as we're just not set up for rescuing them or housing them long term.
In previous years the RSPCA would go out to rescue these species but we have been made aware by multiple people that call handlers are now telling people that 'Wild Things Rescue will sort it', which unfortunately is not the case.
Going out to rescues is a logistical nightmare, particularly when we dont have the kit we need and also have an enormous number of animals in our care, many of whom still require regular feeds and medication. We will always help if we're able to but weve seen a rise in the number of people we talk to who are annoyed because we cant go out immediately, because they've been told by others that we will.
In an ideal world we would have a dedicated team able to come out in emergencies but that's not an easy thing to organise or fund.
If you would like to help us expand what we do and help more wild things, you can by setting up a regular donation (dont forget to tick yes to Gift Aid if you can!)

Our wild things thank you 💚
