June is Feline Hypertension Awareness Month 🐱❤️

High blood pressure in cats is more common than many pet owners realise — especially in senior cats.

Often called a “silent condition,” feline hypertension can cause serious health problems including blindness, kidney disease, heart disease, and neurological issues if left untreated.

Signs can be subtle, but may include:

• Sudden blindness or dilated pupils
• Increased vocalisation or confusion
• Changes in behaviour
• Increased thirst or urination
• Weight loss or reduced appetite

Regular blood pressure checks are an important part of senior cat wellness care and can help us detect problems early before complications develop.

If your cat is over 7 years old, has kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, or you’ve noticed any changes in their behaviour or vision, we recommend booking a health check with our team.

Early detection can make a huge difference in your cat’s quality of life 🩺🐾

🐾 How Acupuncture Can Help Your Pets 🐾

In house acupuncture with PetTherapy Veterinary Acupuncture & Integrated Pain Management - Carole 😊

Did you know acupuncture isn’t just for humans? This ancient healing practice is also used to support the health and wellness of our furry friends! 🐶🐱

Veterinary acupuncture can help pets with:
✅ Chronic pain (like arthritis)
✅ Mobility issues
✅ Neurological conditions
✅ Post-surgical recovery
✅ Anxiety and stress

It works by stimulating specific points on the body to promote natural healing, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation—all without the use of drugs.

If your pet is struggling with pain or other chronic issues, ask your vet if acupuncture might be a good

🌞 HEAT ALERT: A vital reminder from us!🌞

The heat is on, and while we all want to get our pets out and active, we must prioritise their safety above all else.

Remember this: A dog has never died from not walking. But they can, and will, die if walked in this heat.

Heatstroke is a serious emergency for cats, dogs, and small animals. It happens fast and can be fatal.

Know the signs to protect your furry family members:

🐕 For Dogs:
Excessive, frantic panting
Deep red, purple, or blue gums/tongue
Lethargy, weakness, or collapsing
Vomiting and diarrhoea

🐈 For Cats:
Rapid breathing and panting (rare but critical)
Drooling
Stumbling or lack of coordinations

🐹 For Small Animals (Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, etc.):
Lying down, unable or unwilling to move
Short, fast breaths
Wetness around the nose

Protect them this summer:

✅ Keep them in cool, ventilated areas.
✅ Walk dogs only in the early morning or late evening. Check the pavement; if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
✅ Provide plenty of fresh, cold water.
✅ Never, ever leave any pet in a parked car.

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heatstroke, contact us immediately. Stay safe, stay cool! 🐾

☀️ 🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE: Paws in the Heat! 🚨 ☀️

It is a scorching 33°C out there today, and our absolute priority is keeping your pets safe and cool.

If your pet has a routine appointment scheduled for today that isn't urgent, please, please consider giving us a ring to reschedule.

Flea and worming treatments can wait.
Vaccination boosters can wait a few days.
Routine general checks can easily be pushed back.

⚠️ High-Risk Pets
While the heat is tough on all animals, traveling right now is especially dangerous for:

Brachycephalic breeds (squashed-faced animals like Pugs, Frenchies, Bulldogs, and Persian cats) who struggle to cool themselves down.

Overweight pets who carry extra heat.

Senior pets who are much more vulnerable to heatstroke.

Traveling in this extreme heat can be incredibly stressful and hazardous. By postponing non-essential visits, you help keep these high-risk pets safe at home and free up our team to focus on heat-related emergencies
Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation! Stay cool, keep those paws off the hot pavement, and make sure there is plenty of fresh water to go around. 🐾💦

📞 Give us a call at 01509 270997 to reschedule.

Meet Bertie 💙✨

This adorable 6-month-old Chinese Crested came in recently for his castration and completely stole everyone’s hearts from the moment he walked through the door 🐾

With his sweet personality, cheeky little face, and endless cuddles, Bertie had the whole team wrapped around his tiny paws. He was such a brave boy throughout his procedure and is now recovering comfortably with plenty of love and attention 🥰

We think it’s safe to say Bertie has earned himself a few lifelong fans here!

Meet Gibson 🐱✨

This beautiful 3-month-old Ragdoll kitten came in recently for his general health check—and it’s safe to say he completely stole the show (and a few hearts along the way 💙).

From the moment he arrived, Gibson was the definition of calm and confidence. He took everything in his stride, posed like a little professional during his check-up, and then settled right into reception as if he owned the place.

At one point, he got so comfortable he decided it was the perfect spot for a full self-grooming session—very polite, very dignified, very “don’t mind me, I live here now” 🧼🐾

A healthy little superstar with impeccable timing for cuteness. We’re still not over it.

See you soon, Gibson 💕

Celebrating the Heartbeat of the Practice: Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month 🐾

It’s May, which means it’s Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month (VNAM)! This month, we’re shouting from the rooftops about our incredible Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs).

There’s a common misconception that nursing is just a "stepping stone" or that RVNs are simply waiting to train as vets. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
Nursing is a distinct, highly skilled profession in its own right.

Our RVNs have undergone years of intensive tertiary education and clinical training to earn those initials after their names.

They aren't "mini-vets"—they are specialist medical professionals who choose nursing because that is where their passion lies.

What does an RVN actually do?

While the vets are in consults or performing surgery, our nurses are the ones:

⚖️ Maintaining the Balance: Monitoring complex anaesthesia and managing pain relief. Inpatient care from placing IV catheters, attaching and working out fluid and medication dosages.

🔬 Diagnostic Wizards: Running the lab, taking x-rays, and processing blood and urine.

🦷 Dental Experts: Carrying out scale and polishes to keep mouths healthy.

🩹 Wound Management: Applying intricate dressings and providing post-operative care.

💬 Consulting: Leading weight clinics, senior pet checks, and puppy socialisation and many more!

🫂 The Compassionate Link: Providing the "TLC" that helps a nervous patient feel safe in the hospital.

Any they do so much more!

Show some love this May
Our RVNs work long shifts, often through the night, to ensure your pets receive gold-standard care. They do it for the love of the animals and the pride in their craft.

Have you had a wonderful experience with one of our nurses? Please leave a comment below! A little "thank you" goes a long way for our hardworking team. 🩺✨
