DOG BITES ARE ON THE INCREASE:
We’ve just had a bank holiday and it’s half term and, as usual at school holidays, Dachshund Rescue will take a number of calls following a dog bite- often a small child is involved and people are worried about safety. Dogs are struggling to fit into our fast paced life..they are our family members BUT they are dogs!

We can and do help owners who feel they need to rehome their dog in these situations but that is not a ‘quick fix’, effective and successful rehoming takes time.

A one off bite should not be a death sentence for your dog either!

So to PREVENT dog bites

NEVER leave children and dogs unsupervised, ALWAYS be vigilant -stop the child doing anything that might lead to a bite -
For example teach them to
-Leave a sleeping or resting dog alone
-not reach over dogs heads
-ask before touching a dog
-move away if a dog growls
-understand dog body language
-don’t allow children to take things off dogs

Keep playing children away from the dog(s) If a child needs medical attention for a dog bite it will be reported to the authorities, this may involve a visit to your home by the police. ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE, INCLUDING YOUR DACHSHUND

And please don’t ever think your dog wouldn’t bite.. any dog in pain or in a fearful state would bite
More owners need to be BRAVE and not worry about offending someone and say “don’t touch my dog” or allow their dog to be somewhere safe and quiet away from the family fun. We NEED to get better at advocating for our dogs, teaching them that WE will keep them safe, they don’t need to defend themselves.

All grooms have been increased by £2 or £3 this month
Due to consumables charges and utilities
This is not done lightly but I need to keep up with the industry
