Beyond the Bottle Oven Tour

After the success of our first tours with Gladstone Pottery Museum, we now have weekly tours available to celebrate the past, present and future of Stoke on Trent ceramics .

Speaking at a sneak peek at the new Beyond the Bottle Oven tour Keith Brymer Jones said "The more we can do to expose the talent and creativity of the wonderful city of Stoke, the more people will be invested in what people do here.
“That’s what I think is so exciting about this initiative of marrying the old and the new."

Beyond the Bottle Oven is a powerful new visitor experience where heritage meets creativity and innovation. It is more than a visit — it’s a connection to the people, pride and legacy that shaped Stoke on Trent, and the future it’s building today.

Start your tour at Gladstone Pottery Museum with a deep dive into the history of ceramics in Stoke-on-Trent, enjoy a potter's lunch of Staffordshire Oatcakes in the cafe, and finish off with the future of pottery with a factory tour of Duchess China 1888, located across the road from the museum.

Tours cost £45 per person (including lunch) and last approximately 3 - 4 hours. Places are limited so please call 01782 237777 Weds - Sat 10am - 4.45pm or Sun 11am - 3.45pm to book and pay for places.

We have a few places remaining on tomorrows Beyond the Bottle Ovens tour, our joint tour with Gladstone Pottery Museum on Thursday 7 May at 10.30am. A unique look at how the Pottery industry started to how it is currently today.

The day begins at Gladstone with a guided tour of our historic site, followed by a light Staffordshire oatcake lunch in our café and then cross over the road for a tour of Duchess.

Get to see where the The Great Pottery Throw Down is held and Keith Brymer Jones Capel Salem mugs are produced. 🤩

We need your help to sign the "Support the Ceramics Industry" petition created by the campaign.

Our heritage is under threat, as the rising energy costs are placing an immense pressure on UK manufacturers, especially the ceramics industry.

We need help to protect jobs, heritage skills, businesses and to save our industrial heritage.

The Government Petitions Committee has now approved the petition for a review of the 'Supercharger' scheme to include ceramics manufacturers. The scheme provides relief to energy intensive businesses in the UK and inclusion in this would help cut soaring industrial energy costs and support ceramics businesses.

Exciting - Series 3 about to begin.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Capel Salem mugs 🤩

The mugs are fully manufactured in our factory in Stoke on Trent. Each mugs passes 25 pairs of hands during the process, using heritage skills.

The mugs have a joint Capel Salem and Duchess China backstamp to authenticate that they are made in England and more importantly, Stoke on Trent the home of the World Ceramics Industry.

The money raised will go towards the refurbishment of the windows.
