The dog is not i controlled by the enviroment, they find themselves in
The dog is controlled by the enviroment, they are in
I am trying to say, for the dog to learn. There needs to be an extinction of behaviour.
A discriminator between the two.
The quicker the discrimination the faster the learning..
Eg. Sheep in a fieild, the enviroment ( interest)
Sheep moving in a field, where they find themselves ( a need to react)
Arousal, of fast moving sheep
To discriminate between a fast moving flock and the control the dog needs to find. To do the job.
For learning to occur the dog needs
to control the urges to move fast (Discrimination)
Behind the sheep, into their protective ( bubble space) sheep move faster, flee.
Discriminate, so the dog has control to learn ( giving protective space) sheep are not threatened.)
Without the need to create a panic
Within the sheep, the dog is to move. Calmer behaviour is needed.
Dog needs to learn, to control movement of the sheep, without the fear of losing them.. A cycles of fleeing sheep, as the dog fears losing them.
You cannot, control the behaviour
You can control the environment , alter the environment. To aid your dogs learning. Harness your dogs natural abilities
control is not a reinforcer
Learning to control, is the soul property of the learner.
Learning is more diverse, not a clear linear line.
Learning is two fold.
You cannot talk about reinforcement, without talking about extinction. The dog needs to discriminate between the two, reinforcement/learning
Learning, to discrimination, leads to reinforcement, natural extinction of old behaviour. As new behaviour is learnt. So the process of learning goes on.
