Just to let you know that Poppy has passed away. She’s joined Stephen and Jet to complete the Banagher Dam Trio again in pastures new. Poppy and Jet went with Stephen to run of Banagher Dam on many an occasion.
When we started summits on the air Poppy loved nothing more than getting to the top of a mountain and after posing on the trig she’d curl up in her sleeping bag until we’d finished our radio work. Over the past years she has kept me and Roxy company in the van.
We got Poppy originally as Ian is allergic to most dogs but having heard about Schoodles we thought we would go and see some pups. Poppy bounced out at us so we said we’ve found our lorry dog. Collected her on 11-11 so Poppy was her name. Only had her a year when Grandad Harper passed away and Granny said she’d love a companion like her so Roxy came along. Roxy was too boisterous so she asked if she could take Poppy. And so began her 5 years with Granny as friend, companion, guard dog, doorbell & phone listener (and hoover of all crumbs). When granny had her stroke and fell out of bed she lay with her til I came. granny did not approve of dogs in beds but Poppy slept in the corner of her bedroom until granny died. She returned to the farm to resume lorry dog duties with Roxy and then her SOTA trips began followed by her van adventures.
Poppy had a few days away last weekend to see all her Harper family before passing away very peacefully yesterday.
