Are you paying attention? ⬇️

Yesterday a client asked me a question about their dog’s behaviour.

So I explained in detail that the answer wasn’t a “quick fix.”

I talked about changing the relationship with the dog.
Building focus.
Building engagement.
Learning what the dog actually finds rewarding and using that as reinforcement.
I explained how behaviour modification is layered. How health, genetics, stress levels, environment, past experiences, communication and the dynamic between dog and handler ALL play a role.

I broke it down clearly.
I gave practical tools.
Real-life examples.
Actionable steps they could start using immediately.

15 minutes later, they looked at me and asked:
“But what do I do when X, Y, Z?”

The exact thing I had just spent 15 minutes explaining. And THAT is the problem.

People want dog training to be a one-line answer:
A hack
A magic technique

But behaviour problems are multi-layered, and lasting change requires understanding, consistency and relationship work.

Your relationship with your dog matters more than you think.
Like any relationship, it requires effort, communication, trust and understanding.

If you cannot listen to me explaining things about your dog…
how can you truly listen to your dog?

Observation is everything.
Body language is everything.
Your dog is communicating with you constantly - through movement, tension, avoidance, excitement, stress signals, engagement and disengagement.

The question is… are you paying attention?

Dogs do talk, but only to those who listen.

Why you won’t see sensational content on my dog training page - and why that matters to me, you and your dog:

I don’t post dog fights, I don’t share dog attack videos, I don’t post anything that shames owners, and I certainly don’t bash other trainers. I’m about humane, effective, reward-based methods and clear, practical strategies you can use every day. I realise that good training is about the long game, not quick drama.

I favour collaboration over competition. Our dog training community grows stronger when we share knowledge, support one another, and work together for the dogs and their people. I stay clear of online drama, trainer-bashing, and anything that feels unprofessional or mean.

My good work speaks for itself. I’m an award-winning dog training business with 203 five-star Google reviews to date, and my books stay full because families trust what I do and see real, measurable progress in their dogs’ behaviour. All of this sits on a foundation of both professional ethics and personal values.

The relationship I build with my clients and the ongoing support I offer is what matters most. I celebrate each client’s successes and stand with them through the challenges, tailoring every plan to fit their routine and daily life. I’m not here to berate other trainers or engage in internet shouting; I’m here to help you and your dog thrive.

Ultimately, people shop for trust, value and results, not negativity, gossip or shaming. If you share these values, I’d love to connect. Send me a DM through my website with a bit about your dog and what you’re hoping to achieve, and let’s build a plan that works for you both 🐶❤️🏆

Why I’ve been quiet on social media

Five years ago I started my own dog‑training business, and I’m proud to say it’s going strong.

Even with an amazing VA handling admin and a lot of the tech, the workload is consistently high.

It’s not just the sessions; there’s travelling to clients, writing up the lesson handovers, watching training videos in between sessions, keeping my diary on track, responding to queries, and the list goes on.

My number one priority has always been to look after my clients and their dogs really well. This week I hit 200 x 5‑star Google reviews 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 - a milestone that’s hard to believe and incredibly rewarding.
It’s a testament to the care I pour into every client and their dog, and my diary is booked up well into May too.

Alongside the workload, I’m prioritising my private and social life and my health. Social media is often the first thing I lack bandwidth for at the end of a long day. So if you wonder where I've been and why I am not posting daily, it's because I am very busy looking after my wonderful clients, and myself.

Thank you for your trust and for allowing me to do what I love. If you’d like to chat about how I can help your dog, I’d love to hear from you.

Elvis the Bedlington Whippet recently added a Parisian twist to his UK seaside getaway 😅🌊🐠🇫🇷

Why chase waves and eat fish if you can indulge in pastry instead?

Nolan's first croissant ❤️🥐😋

He sniffed it, took one delicate bite, and now he's Googling ‘French citizenship requirements.’ 🇫🇷🥖

With buttery crumbs flying and his soulful Whippet eyes locked on the prize, he’s convinced he’s the rightful heir to a Parisian bakery 😜

🐾Separation anxiety isn’t a character flaw🐾

It's a signal your pup needs confidence-building, and a gentle plan.

With patience, science-backed steps, and a dash of empathy, you can help your dog feel secure when you’re away. Let’s start with two powerful reminders ❤️🙏

1)Do Not Let Them Cry It Out
- Ignoring distress by letting them cry can backfire. It can deepen anxiety and create emotional wounds that take months or even years to heal.
- Crying it out also erodes the trust you share, making recovery slower and more challenging.
- Compassionate, gradual approaches that build confidence and security are far more effective in the long run.
- Your patience and support are incredibly powerful tools that can transform your dog’s experience of being alone.

2)
Don’t Leave Your Dog Alone Longer Than They Can Tolerate
- Many people think dogs will “just get used to being alone.” The truth? Longer absences tend to heighten anxiety, causing hypervigilance and constant stress (even when you’re home).
- Dogs experience absence in the moment, without our context or preparation.
- Overwhelming your dog with long separations too soon can actually worsen anxiety. Gradually build safe, supported alone time - not pushy milestones.
- You don’t have to figure this out alone - my expert guidance can tailor a plan that fits your pup. I’m here to help you navigate this delicate process step by step 💕❤️❣️

- If you’d like a personalized, step-by-step plan to help your pup feel confident when you’re away, send me a DM through my website www.jacksmumdogtraining.co.uk or drop a comment. You’ve got this 💪🏻🙏💕 and your dog’s future self will thank you.
