Halloween safety tips your pet would approve 🦇
1. Calm > costumes 🏠
To a pet, Halloween is a night of doorbells, strangers and an open front door. Walk your dog and bring your cat inside before the trick-or-treaters arrive. Give them a quiet room away from the entrance, with water, their bed, a litter tray for cats and somewhere to hide. Keep doors, windows and cat flaps shut, and only dress them up if they’re truly comfortable.
2. Flameless > flickering 🕯
Your decorations are their new toys. Swap real candles for battery-operated ones and keep the batteries out of reach. Hang cobwebs and dangling decorations up high, tuck cables away, and throw out pumpkins before they turn mouldy.
3. Their treats > your treats 🦴
Halloween food is for humans only. Sugar-free sweets and gum can contain xylitol, which is especially dangerous for dogs, so keep them away from all pets. Grapes and raisins can cause serious kidney injury in dogs, and fatty leftovers, onions and garlic can make any pet poorly. Keep the sweets in a closed cupboard and the bins shut, and stick to their usual treats.
Happy and safe Halloween 🎃
