🛁✨ Handsome boy alert! ✨🛁
Today we had the pleasure of grooming sweet Louie the Clumber Spaniel and honestly… how can anyone resist that face? 🥹🤍
The Clumber Spaniel is one of the oldest spaniel breeds, originally developed in England in the 1700s for flushing and retrieving game birds through dense woodland and heavy cover 🌳🦆 They were bred to work slowly and methodically, using their strength and nose rather than speed — which explains their wonderfully calm, thoughtful personalities (and their occasional “I’ll get there when I get there” attitude 🤣).
Temperament-wise, they’re known for being:
🐾 Gentle
🐾 Loyal
🐾 Goofy in the best way
🐾 Big cuddle experts with a stubborn streak 😅
Now let’s talk coat care ✂️✨
Unlike many breeds that can simply be clipped short, Clumber Spaniels should ideally have their coat hand stripped to maintain that correct silky texture. Removing the dead coat by hand helps preserve the natural weather-resistant outer coat, keeps the colour and texture healthier, and prevents the coat from becoming overly soft, woolly, or fluffy after repeated clipping.
Their dense coat and feathering also love collecting mud, leaves, and half the countryside 🌿😂 so regular grooming is essential to prevent matting around the ears, legs, chest, and trousers.
Louie was an absolute superstar for his pamper session today 💖 Fresh bath, silky hand-stripped coat, tidy feet, neat feathering, and extra handsome points unlocked ✨🐶
