London Vet Clinic

London Vet Clinic London Vet Clinic is an independent clinic in Central London. Out of hours service provided 24/7. In 1985 we moved to our present premises on York Street.

We provide primary and specialist care for companion animals and their families and are open 5 days a week. The London Veterinary Clinic, in the heart of London, provides primary and specialist care for companion animals and their people. Originally called the Portman Veterinary Clinic, we opened in 1973 near Portman Square to care for pets in Marylebone, Mayfair and Lisson Grove. Today most peopl

e and pets who visit us come from St John’s Wood, Hampstead, Highgate, Camden, Kensington, Chelsea and Hammersmith. To reflect that change the clinic name was changed to the London Veterinary Clinic. We are open 5 days a week and have a 24 hour out of hours emergency service provider on call for anything outside of our opening hours.

Dr Grant Petrie joins Dr Bruce Fogle to discuss one of the biggest advances in veterinary cardiology.

The EPIC study showed that early treatment with pimobendan can delay heart failure in dogs with mitral valve disease by an average of 15 months.

Because the best outcomes start with early diagnosis ❤️🐾

This sweet little boy had a difficult experience at the vets in the past, so he arrived feeling understandably worried and unsure of himself.

At London Vet Clinic, we always tailor our approach to each pet’s individual needs. To help him feel more comfortable, Bruce carried out his consultation outside the practice, right by our front door. With a little patience, kindness and reassurance, it wasn’t long before this brave boy began to relax.

Seeing nervous pets gain confidence and leave feeling happier than when they arrived is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do at London Vet Clinic.

If your pet feels anxious about vet visits, please let us know. We’re always happy to adapt our approach to help them feel safe, comfortable and cared for. ❤️

Meet Molly 🐾

Molly came in to see us for a dental procedure and was an absolute star patient from start to finish.

And what happened? Well, let’s just say Molly decided recovery time wasn’t for her. After woofing down her food, she staged a jailbreak from her kennel and headed straight into prep to supervise Vet Paloma, just in case any more snacks made an appearance.

Puppy dog eyes: 10/10.
Food motivation: Off the charts.
Would feed again 🐾

Diabetes in cats isn't what it used to be!

Today Dr Bruce Fogle is chatting to Dr Grant Petrie about why treament is now far more successful now.

Grass seed season is here early ☀️

Arrow-shaped seed heads from wild barley, brome grass and meadow foxtails are drying early this year, and they can cause serious problems for dogs. These sharp seeds can work their way between toes, into ears and eyes, up noses or even through the skin.

Once embedded, they migrate forward, never back, and they don’t break down naturally. In some cases, they can travel deeper into the body and lead to painful infections or abscesses.

These are the drying seed heads still attached to their stems, but once individual seeds detach, they can easily pe*****te the skin and become difficult to spot.

If you think your dog may have picked up a grass seed, contact us immediately 🐾

We were delighted to see our very own Bruce featured in the latest episode of ZSL’s Wildest Moments podcast alongside his son, Ben, and ZSL’s Head of Wildlife Health Services, Dr Amanda Guthrie.

In the episode, Bruce reflects on his journey from Canada to London Zoo, where his career in wildlife veterinary medicine began many years ago - and on the Golden Retriever, Honey, who changed the course of his life. Amazingly, years later, a similar story would unfold for Ben.

It’s a fascinating conversation about family, veterinary medicine, and how wildlife healthcare has evolved over the years - as well as the vital role it continues to play in protecting both animals and people.

With ZSL recently announcing a brand new wildlife health centre, it feels like the perfect moment to celebrate the incredible work being done in wildlife veterinary care.

When it comes to cancer, there’s rarely a simple answer!

Dr Bruce Fogle and Dr Grant Petrie discuss how treatment has progressed, and the difficult decisions that can come with it.

From surgery to more advanced therapies, outcomes today are far better than they once were. But just as important is asking: what’s right for each individual pet and their owner?

There are never easy conversations, but you're never facing them alone 🩵
