When Kyle and his son Fred unexpectedly welcomed Luna, a seven-month-old rehomed puppy, into their family, they wanted to make sure she had everything she needed to feel safe and settled. With little time to prepare, they headed straight to Pets at Home Cramlington for help.

Kyle said, “We were a bit frantic. Luna needed to be rehomed quite suddenly from an unsuitable situation, so we needed to get supplies quickly but also needed to make sure we had the right things. The staff at Cramlington were brilliant and made sure we had the essentials like a bed, puppy food, toys and Luna’s first tag. They even explained Pets Club and how to claim discounts. They made the whole experience so much easier. It gave us everything we needed to settle her in properly.”

Luna is already thriving in her new home, and Kyle says she’ll be joining them on their next visit to the store to say thank you in person.

For husband and wife vet duo, Dan and Lucy, owning a vet practice is very much a family affair.

Already trusted by pet owners in Abingdon and Oxford Botley, Dan and Lucy have expanded their family-run vet care with the newly opened Vets for Pets Didcot, with the help of their two young sons who support them with very important jobs, such as keeping the animals company. One of their most memorable cases was Lottie, a heavily pregnant, malnourished cocker spaniel who had been abandoned. Not only did they help her make a full recovery, but they went one step further and adopted her into their family.

Dan says that opening a new practice is a proud milestone in their journey: "From the very beginning, we've been committed to delivering personalised, compassionate care to our clients and their pets. Expanding into a new location allows us to bring that same trusted approach to even more families in the community. We’re excited to continue growing and looking after all the patients that come through our doors, no matter how furry or feathery they may be.”

Meet Carla, our Pets Magazine Cover Star and practice owner at Vets for Pets Bristol Emersons Green.

Vet Carla is making a real difference in her local community through her incredible work with StreetVet For the past seven years, she has volunteered with Street Vet locally, helping it grow from a small outreach programme to a vital service supporting over 80 homeless pet owners with kindness and compassion.

Carla told us: “When I joined the outreach team in early 2018, we’d spend an hour walking from the city centre to the Bearpit and St James’ Park, trying to recruit new clients who didn’t even know we existed. Now my practice serves as a host facility, holding medicines and supplies while providing advanced care beyond our street outreach. Watching our entire community rally together reminds me of why I do this work.

Discover Carla’s full story in the latest issue of Pets Magazine, available now in stores for £2.50, or free for Pets Club members.

Having three legs hasn’t stopped Columbus the tortoise from living up to his name as an avid explorer.

Discovered injured wandering the streets, Columbus was adopted 14-years ago by tortoise owner Lucy. When he had an accident earlier this year that meant he needed a leg amputation, Lucy knew exactly where to turn - the trusted team at Kettering Vets for Pets.

Lucy said, "I’m so grateful that Columbus was able to have the surgery, I really thought that he wasn't going to make it. It was a bit of a shock to see him with three legs at first, but it was the only way to save his life. The nurses were so kind to him and supported me too. Thanks to Chris and the nursing team, Columbus is back to enjoying life.”

Vet Chris, who performed the surgery, said, "We had to consider both the ethics and the surgical procedure itself, and knowing that Columbus could live well and comfortably with three legs was the most important starting point. He recovered amazingly well from the anaesthetic and the surgery. We’re so happy that Columbus is back to keeping Lucy on her toes."

Here’s six-year-old Archie on his birthday shopping trip to Pets at Home Tottenham Hale.

Owner Gabi knew exactly what toy Archie would make a beeline for. She said, “Archie’s absolute favourite toy is his ball. If his all is around then nothing else matters! As soon as we got into Pet at Home to choose his birthday present, he went straight for the balls and also a little teddy bear from KONG.”

What’s toy would your pet choose for their birthday? Let us know below. 👇

Topsy might be 16, but she still acts like a kitten thanks to the loving care of owner Anne.

Pets at Home customer Anne has had Topsy since she was a kitten, but now she’s in her senior years, Topsy needs a little extra support. Anne said, "Topsy now needs a little help getting up and down to her favourite sleeping spots. She prefers to eat little and often, and soft food as she's had a lot of teeth removed during her regular dental checks. She might not be as nimble as she once was, but she still loves a play!"

A huge congratulations to Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary who were surprised with £100,000, at the Pets Foundation annual charity ball. These funds will be used to build new kennels for dogs in need.

Founded in 2013, Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary works closely with local dog wardens, rescues and communities to support pets in need of support. This funding means they can help even more dogs like five year old Gracie, pictured, who arrived at the sanctuary battling pneumonia. After three months of treatment, care and love Grace found her now home, and even pops back with her new owners to say hello.

Steph, Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary Founder, Chair and Manager, said: “We are absolutely overwhelmed by this incredible act of generosity. It has been a whirlwind of an evening in the best way possible. The additional £100,000 grant will allow us to complete our new kennel block and transform the lives of thousands of dogs for years to come. This support means everything to us, we’re deeply grateful to the Pets Foundation and everyone who made this possible.

Six-year-old Leighton is over the moon to have his best friend Eddie the cat back, after he disappeared from home three months ago.

Indoor cat Eddie escaped through an open window chasing another cat, leaving Leighton and mum Danielle devastated. They searched high and low every day before and after school, and throughout the summer holidays, but there was no sign of him. Then, out of the blue, Danielle got a call from Vets for Pets Wolverhampton; Eddie had been found safe and well, and their contact details found on his microchip.

Danielle said, “The vets called to say Eddie had been found in a nearby garden and brought in to check his microchip, which was such a relief. Leighton was cheering so loudly when we heard the news! Eddie’s now home with his best friend and doing well, although he’s put on a bit of weight during his adventures, so he's now on a diet - much to his displeasure.”
