Senior dogs have always been an inspiration for The Blooming Dog: Millie, CEO and my beloved fur-daughter, found her way into my life when she was 9 years old. She inspired me to start working with dogs. Mushroom, a 16 years old Labrador with degenerative myelopathy had me questioning what more coul...

*Meeting and Greetings*

This cute little triplet is amazing to have together. It was love at first sight.

Althought what we need to keep in mind whenever we introduce new pups to eachother is the environment we are in.
Especially for dog walker or sitter that might have to do pick ups with a group of dogs waiting at the door.
It is essential to treat the greetings like the classic "schrodringer's cat" : 50-50 chance of the outcome. Even if all dogs are friendly.
The meeting has to be calm, gradual and with possibility of distraction from the excitement (treats usually).

It is important that the dog who is exiting their home does not feel overwhelmed and threatened by a pack they haven't met before, there...waiting, right at their doorstep.

Take all the time you need and restart from zero, if necessary; to make sure the first impression is a positive one. Cause it does make the difference in future dynamics among them.

If one (or more) of the dogs waiting is overexcited or too friendly, you need to be a fair judge and build a save space around who is being introduced, like a safety bubble that can pop whenever they are ready, on their terms.

Here's an example of amazing result started with a barky "home-owner" and 2 very-excited puppies waiting.
Timing and space are essential keys for true friendship (for humans too!๐Ÿ˜Š)
Well done kids, so roud of you!

Miso โค

Miso joined us few weeks ago, with the intent of working on his socialisation skills, since his dad thought he was getting too rough considering the feedback he received from previous day cares: from one Miso got kicked out for being too hyper (he is now 6 months not sure what they expected); another one told them they do not take in male vizla.
Well let me tell you Miso is THE MOST gentle player. Despite his size and age he has a very gentle touch even when playing wrestling- essential playing style especially as puppies, since they learn about boundaries, body language and strength-; he has the greatest recall, keeping an eye on the human he is with even when playing, and following if you walk away.
He-not yet neutred- has met a female who had just finished her season, then another non neutered vizla joined us.
They all played together (although the other vizla seemed intrested in her here and then) without any growling or signs they should be separated.
And that's,one more time, one of the reasons why I do not work in 10+ dogs day care. In those environments rules must be in place for safety reasons, but those rules are not always shaped around the dog's needs nor personality. Miso needs different stimulation to then settle indoor. He is great outside, but little nervous of new places indoor, and that's why he shows hyperactivity. He is not hyper .he is stressed.
That does not mean he is not well behaved.

We need to stop to try to shape the perfect dog and focus more on help the single individual to be the happiest and most confident (hence the best) version possible of themself.

I love you, Misoโค so proud of you.
