About 3 weeks ago we were approached by a family with an 18-month-old Doberman named Leo.
Leo was acquired at 6 weeks from an unscrupulous breeder by the family’s teenage son. Leo was very poorly socialised, had never been walked, never left the house and spent most of his time in a very, very small cage. Consequently, Leo was incredibly stressed, jumped up and mouthed when out of his small cage and had developed serious separation anxiety, barking incessantly if left alone for any length of time.
The family received a formal warning from their landlord, Leo needed rehoming urgently;
Kevin worked tirelessly to get Leo out of this situation, as the threat of euthanasia was real.
We soon learned that ALL the rescues in the UK are in crisis, overflowing with unwanted dogs from the pandemic, from purchases made without any understanding of a dog’s need and of the cost involved in owning a dog, moneywise but also in time.
We were very fortunate to find Christine from On The Way Home and thanks to her and to Kevin’s mammoth driving effort in collecting and transporting Leo on Tuesday and yesterday, he is now safe from euthanasia and stands a good chance to be rehabilitated. Hopefully one day he’ll find a family that will love him and will look after him in the kind and proper way he deserves.
During our journey to get Leo to a safe place, we spoke to many, many people that work tirelessly and without financial gain to save as many dogs as possible from homes where they are now unwanted and from abusive situations.
If you have any unwanted dog food, blankets, towels, dog toys please let us know and we’ll collect and delivery to a central distribution centre that helps the work of many dog charities.
There is also an Amazon wish list, should you wish make a donation in this way:

Leo, may your new beginning be filled with love and understanding as there isn’t such a thing as a bad dog, just bad breeders and inadequate owners.
