❄️ 🐈 How to keep your cat warm and happy this Winter 🐈 ❄️
As the temperature hits freezing, here's our quick guide to keeping your fabulous furrriend warm, healthy and happy!
1. Provide them with lots of warm cosy spaces to curl up and snooze. A bed lined with fleece or faux fur is always welcomed.
2. In cold rooms, invest in a heated blanket that they can curl up in, especially good for older cats who will be experiencing stiffer joints in these cold temps.
3. If you have a log fire, log burner or any other naked flame, do make sure you're supervising your furriend as they can often get a bit too close, or too curious.
4. Invest in a few new toys and add on a bit of extra playtime. Especially for cats that normally venture outside but might be staying inside because of the cold. Even if they're a bit sleepier than usual, they appreciate the playtime and extra stimulation.
5. Central heating evaporates water bowls quicker than anything so do keep refreshing them with fresh water.
6. Cats need extra calories in Winter to help keep their bodies warm and functioning at their best, so don't forget to add in a few extra ones (there are some good cat calorie guides online that can help you work out what extra they need depending on their weight and activity level)
7. If your cat is an outdoor cat, keep an eye on their catflap, they can get frozen shut (especially if it's icy and overnight) and you don't want them getting locked in (or out)
8. Keep your cat's paws clean and dry, gently wiping them when they come in from the outside to remove any ice, snow or grit that could be stuck in those toe beans. You can also look into paw balms to help them stay smooth and healthy.
9. If your cat is an outdoor adventurer, consider investing in an outdoor shelter (there are come great microchipped ones). But DO REMEMBER not to put fabric blankets inside, as a wet cat on a blanket in icy conditions, could cause hypothermia as it freezes around them. Instead either look at self-heating pads or straw.
