New Leaf students chose what they want to grow on their plots and take responsibility caring for their plants - from sowing seeds to taking home produce they’ve harvested.
This week those who are growing potatoes were busy ‘earthing up’, adding more compost around the base of the plants to stop the potatoes going green.

Did you know we have two walnut trees on the Farm? One overhanging the Thames path and one giving shade to the duck pond area. Over the next few days we’ll be harvesting fresh green walnuts from the trees to sell in our farm shop. They’re perfect for pickling! Call into the Farm this weekend to purchase some and let us know what you make with them!

Forest School participants treated to the best activities in the wildlife garden! Testing their camouflage skills (and patience) to turn themselves into bird feeders, walking the ferrets, moulding and crafting with clay and maintaining their space by digging in new log seats.

Our Greenagers clubs enjoyed another busy session on the Farm last Saturday. They harvested chamomile, linden and other herbs for their tea making enterprise. Plus they started the indoor mushrooms (lions mane, reishi, pink oyster), harvested red cherries (to eat and share, before the birds get them!) and spent time with the animals.

We’ve recently partnered with local secondary school, Bacon’s College to deliver a weekly Forest School session for some of their pupils. The students have enjoyed spending time in the wildlife garden and meeting the animals. They’ve also been making these beautiful flower presses using natural paints and finished them off today.

We welcomed Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Edinburgh four weeks ago, to launch her patronage of Social Farms & Gardens. During the visit she repotted one of our tomato plants in the greenhouse… and it’s thriving! It won’t be long before we’re harvesting and selling royal tomatoes in the farm shop!
