Helen Betham Equestrian Training Whilst my priority has been with training I have also competed to Newcomers showjumping, Novice eventing and schooled to Advanced level in dressage.

I am a BHS Intermediate Instructor and hold a degree and postgraduate diploma in Equine Science from Hartpury College, having taken great interest in subjects such as equine biomecha

nics, rider performance, anatomy and physiology, sports medicine and equine nutrition. Whilst studying at Hartpury I was selected as a member of the Academy of Sport Development Squad, recieving weekly training from renowned trainers such as Nick Burton and Carl Hester. During my Postgraduate Diploma I recieved a scholarship which included a job in the Equine Veterinary and Therapy Centre, where I was involved in the veterinary rehabilitation of a wide range of horses using high-speed and underwater treadmills, groundschooling and manipulative therapies. I have worked for international event riders including Jeanette Brakewell, Ann and Nigel Taylor (based at Aston le Walls, the UKs premier eventing venue) and as a rider for William Fox Pitt. Alongside teaching riding freelance for the past 14 years, I have produced horses from backing to competition and sale on behalf of owners, and also offer help dealing with all varieties of problematic behaviour. I combine this with working as a lecturer in Equine and Animal Management at Oaklands College, St Albans. I am able to combine the insight I gained from watching and training with inspirational riders on a daily basis and my knowledge of the dynamic structure and psychology of horse and rider to provide a unique eye for a correct and harmonious way of going for horse and rider. My approach is through empathy, understanding and fun with a no-nonsense approach in order to achieve the best results. Services offered include dressage, showjumping and cross-country tuition, childrens lessons, preparation for BHS exams up to BHS Stage 4 and IT, assistance with problematic behaviour and tuition for students studying equine college or degree courses. Share opportunity for lightweight competent rider 1 to 3 times a week near Potters bar. More ad hoc arrangement considered for rider with enough experience!

Digby is a 12.2 Dartmoor Hill pony looking for a second rider primarily to enjoy all his jumping enthusiasm! He has had wins in placings in jumping, dressage and showing every time out. Free coaching and transport to compete SJ!

He is a very forward going and athletic pony who loves his work and has personality and confidence to burn but is still somewhat green so needs a rider with experience riding buzzy competition types, with a balanced seat and still leg and hands to keep him from getting too carried away! I must be clear he is not the pony for the step up from riding school. His fabulous existing rider has gone from riding him only on the lunge, to Sunshine Tour at Hickstead (which we are aiming for again) and is becoming quite the dressage and showing diva, but I am looking for a second rider for him to follow his more high octane goals SJ and XC!

We also have fabulous hacking which he loves.

Max 8st/5ft approximately.

Looking for a new 🏡 as a companion 💛

Coco is a much loved 11.3hh mare rising 15. She has perfect manners on the ground and is safe to be handled by the smallest of children. She has been retired due to a suspensory injury which unfortunately won’t heal, so is looking for a non-ridden companion home. As you can see she has come to terms with her retirement pretty well! She is happy and relaxed in the field and gets on with everyone. Has wintered out happily.

13.2hh Fell Mare, giant plushie black beauty!

Ideal showing/dressage/RC/hacking pony. Full up 13.2hh (I am 5’7”, on her in the competing pics) rising 11. Super characterful and fun, light responsive ride, yet totally unflappable and as safe as they come. Schools sweetly, basic lateral work established. I would be taking her out to BD in the spring but realistically don’t have the time. Will make a lovely amateurs dressage/show, yet safe enough to take your elderly relatives out for a hack, she will keep following on even if nana nods off! Stick your kids on her while you go and muck out and the worst she will do is eat! Happily pops a small fence, XC schooled, spent last summer on the riding school and was an absolute hit! However she’s not a robotic schoolmaster and wouldn’t be happy being pulled/kicked around by a novice as her main rider.

Absolutely loves hacking and very chatty and vocal!! Goes first/last/alone, super fun ride but also stops immediately from voice commands on the ground. Never strong, silly or spooky. Watches the others gallop around the field looking bemused! Safe and easy to handle, comes to call, never bitten, kicked, bucked, loves a pamper and a cuddle.

Tack and rugs available separately 😊

Vaccinations, worming, dentist etc all up to date, barefoot and very robust! Located 5 mins from M25 J23.
