You may have noticed some changes to the wading bird enclosure recently.

Our wading birds (Ibis, Little egrets, Cattle egrets, Chiloe wigeons, and pintails) have moved to a new home at Birdworld. We'll share further news on how the move went soon!

This move opens the door to exciting improvements in the enclosure and new arrivals in the future. Thank you for your support as we continue to transform and improve the zoo! 💚🦆

How many of you thought our Bennett's Wallabies were Kangaroos when you first came to the zoo? 🤭

It's a comment our keepers get a lot! You're more likely to see a Bennett's Wallaby (otherwise known as a Red-Necked Wallaby) than a Kangaroo in Zoos across the UK. They're in the Macropod family - same as Kangaroos - but much smaller!

There's even a wild population of these Wallabies in the UK! 😱

Our sassy Scottish Wildcat, Fern, has found an excellent hiding spot to escape the heat this summer! 🤭

If you haven't seen the Wildcats in a while because of the hot weather, try popping back in the early morning or late afternoon - that's your best shot at catching a glimpse!

August 16th was World Honey Bee Day, so we thought we'd share some clips of our fabulous bee-keeper, Helen from Highgate Honey, caring for our Honey bees here in Golders Hill Park. 🐝

Honey bees and other pollinators are incredibly important for our global food supply and for plant diversity, and they are key contributors to the health of our ecosystems across the world! Thank you Honey bees! 🧡

It's World Lizard Day! 🥳

Did you know we have 3 types of native Lizard in the UK? Common Lizards, Sand Lizards, and Slow Worms. 🦎

Last year, on the Heath, we were lucky enough to be able to spot a Common Lizard basking on a warm pile of tiles, a very rare sighting indeed!

Lizards in the UK are harmless and will flee when approached, so remember to keep your distance if you do see one. But if you manage to take a photo, let us know – we love keeping an eye on what species we have on the Heath! 📸

If you’re a regular visitor to the Zoo, you may have noticed that our Eurasian Eagle Owl, Burt, is not in his usual enclosure.

Fear not, if you head over to the Chicken enclosure, you’ll see him there. He’ll be living there temporarily while we undergo necessary maintenance on his enclosure.

Burt is curious about his new surroundings and if you can’t see him right away, he may be enjoying his new favourite spot up in the tree! 🌳
