Bonsai Yennefer of Vengerberg: 13/9/23 - 18/6/25

This is the hardest post I’ve ever had to write. This is the hardest and most emotional pet passing away I’ve ever felt.

You shouldn’t have favourites, but, Yen was the sweetest, bestest pet you could ever have the fortune to have known. First generation Bonsai, winner of best pet two weeks in a row at the LSC and NFRS annual shows in 2024, Judge’s Friend at Spring Cup just a couple of months ago. Always the first to the cage door even if you were just walking past or she heard your voice, so calm and loved to pose with her prize rosettes and trophies! Anyone who met her could never forget her.

I’m going to miss her more than any other pet I’ve had, possibly that I’ll ever have.

Rest in peace, my friend. 🥺

Yen has won Best Pet at the last two shows in a row, earning 7 Pet Points - she qualifies for a Silver Champion (Pet) award!

My first time showing was the LSCMRC Xmas show this time last year, so today’s show marked my first full year of showing dwarf rats!

I think it has been particularly big learning curve for me, not just as a new breeder, but also because I’m doing a provisional standard variety, so it has been really helpful being around everyone at shows, learning from breeders, judges and seeing other rats of all varieties, and every time I learn something new.

I didn’t get to as many shows as I’d have liked in the latter half of this year, with lots of life’s ups and (mostly) downs putting a huge dent into my plans, but hopefully next year will be a fresh start for me personally and professionally, and I’ll be in a better position to get to more shows with my little dwarves!

I know we’ve been quiet lately but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy! Two dwarf litters, almost 5 weeks old! Five in each litter, with 6 bucks and 4 does, 6 Russian Blue and 4 Russian Dove, and 3 of the Blues are dumbo. They’re growing so fast, and I’m not looking forward to having to choose keepers, as I love them all!
