❤️ 🐶 Want to show your dog you love them? Skip the hugs (most dogs aren’t fans!) and try these dog-approved ways to strengthen your bond:

🐾 Reward good behaviour – Catch them doing something right and praise them! Treats, toys, and a consistent YES followed by a treat. What gets rewarded, gets repeated.

🐾 Respect their space – Not all dogs love cuddles. Instead, watch their body language—loose wagging tails and relaxed ears mean they’re comfortable, while lip licking, yawning, or turning away might mean they need space. Practice consent with your dog.

🐾 Let them sniff! – Sniffing isn’t just for fun—it’s how dogs explore the world. Give them time on walks to take in the smells.

🐾 Engage their brain – Training sessions, puzzle toys, and games like hide-and-seek show your dog you care by making life exciting.

🐾 Give them choices – Let your dog choose where to rest, when to be pet, and what pace to walk. Respecting their choices builds trust!

PUP IN THE CITY is a collaboration between certified dog trainers, Rachel Wojcicki (That’s So Fetch Training) and Sarah Kosar (Meatball Motel). We have built our training curriculums to be accessible, achievable and fun for both you and your dog! No judgement from us - we work with the individual human and dog in front of us and their particular needs. We want you to both have fun, learn and grow together.

WE OFFER:
Small group training classes with two qualified trainers, workshops and 1:1 sessions.

Dear Meatball,
When you choose to initiate snuggles with me and jump into the human sized dog bed, I feel like the luckiest person in the world. I feel a sense of peace like I never have before.

Before I was a dog trainer, I would pick a dog up or put it on me to cuddle. It was because I wanted the touch, not because the dog chose it. It wasn’t a two way connection.

Giving our dogs agency, choice and especially consenting to touch changes your relationship. I know Meatball wants to be close, he knows he always has an exit route and isn’t going to be kept there. I know we’re both calm because we are breathing slowly together. We regulate our emotions by being together in the still, silence of the nights and morning. It’s what I look forward to the most.

I know I love you and I know you love me.
