XL-K9 Founder Raj was recently featured in Stacey Dooley International Women’s Day documentary with Body Positive Warrior and XL-K9 client Harnaam Kaur ✨

The episode gave a peek into our journey together as we have trained Harnaam’s rottweiler King Kai Singh for just over a year, saving them from a troubled start to now an everlasting bond 🔗 It shows how we have helped to improve the relationship between them both, from basic obedience to personal protection training and why having a solid foundation is so important to a lasting and promising handler-dog relationship. The leash is the telephone wire between the handler and the dog. We get you connected 🤝 At XL-K9, we are here to help not only the dogs but the handlers too and this story is just one example 🙌🏽

Here’s another example of a dog that pulls on the lead. We get these types of issues coming to XL-K9 weekly, so we wanted to share this clip from our recent training session with Duke the German Shepherd. 🎥 Watch it to find out some insight into how these behaviours start happening, and how to implement corrections like we have. Head over to our Instagram to see the end result 👆🏽

All dogs should have proper lead mannerisms, meaning they should be calm and walking on the lead correctly as this sets the foundation for a good and positive walk with their owner 🦮

Thankfully, we solved Duke’s problem within 20 minutes and now we get to work on his brother Tyson’s issues. Stay tuned with our stories and posts on .k9.ltd on IG, to see how we get on! 🐶

Last week we said goodbye to after he boarded with us for 10 days! When King joined us he came with a lot of issues, from: extreme pulling on the lead, very dog reactive, not listening to the sit command and anxious without his handlers 🐕‍🦺 One of his biggest distractions was , where he would lose full control and try to go for the toys, and pull towards other people and animals. This made it massively unmanageable for his handler and King’s behaviour needed to change ‼️

In his time with us at XL-K9, we focused on crate training and a lot of engagement work, to make sure King got more comfortable with his handlers and a range of environments and surroundings. When we completed our handover with , it was important we took King back to his biggest distraction and put his training to the test ✅ For a dog which didn’t even sit before, isn’t this such a huge improvement?! Well done champ 🙌🏽👑

This is Zeus, from XL Kennels Litter B ⚡️

Zeus’ family came back to XL-K9 and have continuously put in the most amount of effort to ensure he gets off to the best start in his new home. They made a block booking so they could stay consistent, but they also did their homework and put in the work with him every day — and the results speak for themselves 👏🏽

It’s been a pleasure to work with the family and of course Zeus, one of our own pups bred by us, as he achieves and excels to our XL Standards 🙌🏽

Stay tuned as we upload more videos of our work with .gsd.ldn, and if you’ve been following us on stories you would have see him in action already! 🤩

One of the most common issues new puppy owners have is managing their puppy biting/nipping. Here’s 3 easy ways to solve this by following our 3 simple rules ➡️

1️⃣ Crating system = Structure.
Stop your puppy from forming unwanted behaviours, and help create solid foundations for the future.

2️⃣ Lead = Direction.
Control your pup at all times. You wouldn’t leave a child all alone while they’re out, so don’t leave your puppy!

3️⃣ Training = Guidance.
Training and interacting with your dog puts all their drive and energy to use. This way your puppy knows every time it comes out it’s kennel or crate, it’s for something engaging and rewarding.

We don’t give time to start creating and forming bad habits, which can lead to a bad mannered dog! We want happy and obedient dogs in order to enjoy them, and for them to enjoy us 😀🐶

CLICKER TRAINING IN ACTION 💥

Clicker training your dog is a great way to get them to focus on what you’re asking them to do. Using a clicker during training will help your dog recognise when they’ve carried out a behaviour that will lead to a reward 🦴

Adding a marker word into the training helps to reinforce what the command is, but the clicker helps to make it more predictable to your dog and they’ll likely associate the sound with the reward.

Here, we are doing some clicker training with Alvaro, a 16-week old Cane Corso. We’re using 1 click for the command (mark) and 2 clicks for the release (reward). As the family’s spoken language at home is Punjabi, we are using the clicker technique to train Alvaro’s heel, sit, stay and sit-stay commands in Punjabi.
When releasing, it’s important to remember to always use a release marker, such as our head trainer Raj, using an enthusiastic yes or high pitched “chiipp”, to associate with a release.
We aim to transition to mark and reward without the clicker later on, to continue to build Alvaro’s commitment to work. 🐶

We’ll be bringing you a short reel on this soon to help break it down for you guys! Drop a comment below if you want to see that soon, and share this with another dog owner 🙌🏽

It’s been a while since you guys have seen the OG’s… XL-K9’s very own Blake and Bella XL Jaswal 🙌🏽 They are the reason we started XL-K9 and are two of our toughest trainers! Bella and Blake have previously assisted in a few training sessions, teaching the young pups a thing or two… as we all know, dogs can learn more from each other sometimes! When we combine Bella’s drive and assertiveness and Blake’s calm and focus, we are able to implement some of XL-K9’s core teachings to achieve a confident, happy and well-rounded dog 🐶

When Shadow the Dutch Herder came to us, we saw straight away the issues he was having and knew our XL-K9 methods would help him get over his anxieties. Extreme reactivity and zero mannerisms on the lead are big no-no’s ❌ and should be eliminated in your pooches as soon as possible to enable their confidence in walking on the lead comfortably and ensure handlers can also manage their dogs with ease ✅.

If your pooch suffers with these similar behaviours, XL-K9 are here to help! Fill out the form on our website to enquire for a session, and let’s get to work 🐕
