Yesterday, we shared 27 black cats living under one roof for , hoping to shine a light on the cats who are so often overlooked. Yet, it seems that being a different shade can make a cat more noticeable.

We love that one of our cats, in particular, has received so much attention. 🩵 But there’s an irony here - the cat receiving the most love for their colouring is the one who’s more brown than black.

Black cats are just as loving, playful, affectionate and deserving of a home as any other cat. Yet time and time again, they can be the last to be chosen, waiting longer for someone to see past their coat colour.

This , 27 black cats from the same household are hoping for new homes to call their own. 🖤

We were fast to respond when an owner reached out to say she was struggling to care for them all in a one-bedroom flat.

Our incredible volunteer foster carers and Southampton rehoming team have come together to give the cats the care, comfort and space they need.

We’re grateful the owner reached out for help, knowing this must have been a difficult and overwhelming situation for everyone involved.

Since arriving in our care, the cats have been settling in at their own pace. Some are beginning to come out of their shells, while others need more time and reassurance to feel safe.

Now, they need patient, loving families who will give them the chance to thrive.

Black cats can take longer to find homes, with myths and superstitions still putting people off from adopting.

Fireworks used to mean one frightening night for our pets. Now, it can feel like a whole month of fear. 💔

As fireworks start earlier each year, our pets face weeks of unpredictable bangs, leaving them frightened in their own homes.

Please think twice before hosting your own fireworks display. If you want to enjoy fireworks, choose an organised display instead.

Trigger warning: Awful animal abuse within description.

Thank goodness his tiny cries were heard; otherwise, he wouldn’t be alive today. 💔

Little Bandit did nothing to deserve being cruelly wrapped in a plastic bag and zipped up in a backpack.

Skinny, filthy and covered in blood, with a broken jaw, he must have been terrified – and in so much pain.

Thankfully, a brave member of the public heard his desperate meows and intervened, saving his life.

Rushed to a charity vet hospital for emergency jaw treatment and surgery, Bandit was then brought into our care at our Suffolk rehoming centre to recover.

Bandit’s carers took things at his own pace, and he quickly learned that humans could be kind.

Two weeks later, and with the wire removed from his now-healed jaw, he was adopted, and now spends his days exploring his garden, playing in the house and being showered with love.

Bandit has now put his traumatic past well and truly behind him, and his joyful character is shining through. 🩵

Brian Conley has adopted Kevin! 🩵 It was clearly love at first sight for Brian and his family when they spotted Kevin on our website.

While touring with Bradley Walsh, Shane Richie and Joe Pasquale, Brian took the time to share a lovely video telling us just how much love he would have.

Kevin had already been reserved, but when circumstances changed and he became available again, the stars aligned for Brian.

Kevin has now found his happy ever after with the Conley family, and we couldn’t be more delighted!

Thank you, Brian and family, for giving Kevin a loving home. 🥰

This handsome boy has come a long way since being in our care, growing in confidence and learning that having his feet trimmed isn't so scary!

🌮 Meet Dorito, Pringle, Skips and Wotsit! 🧡

🏥These four tiny kittens were left in a box outside our Hammersmith hospital at 4am, along with a note explaining they had been found during a delivery round and nowhere was open.

❤️‍🩹Thankfully, our Hammersmith team were there to welcome them! 🐾

🪱Apart from their little pot bellies, likely caused by worms, and having spent hours shut in a box, the kittens were thankfully doing OK.

🚐They were transferred to our Victoria hospital, where a cosy kennel was already waiting for them, complete with toys and enrichment. ❤️

⏱️It took a little time for Dorito, Pringle, Skips and Wotsit to forget about their frightening start, but soon enough, curiosity took over and they were happily playing together! 🥹🐱

🏡At around six weeks old, they have now headed off to one of our rehoming centres, where they’ll be cared for until they’re old enough to find their forever homes.

📦From a cardboard box at 4am to a safe, warm bed with toys to play with, these little ones are now on the road to a much brighter future. 🐾

🥺Meet Sweetpea and Blossom🥺

🏥Thought to be just eight weeks old, these sisters arrived at Blue Cross hungry, injured and covered in fleas after being sold by an unscrupulous breeder.

🚨Their wounds were infected, with bone exposed and necrosis was developing in Blossom’s case. Both kittens needed urgent veterinary treatment, including wound cleaning, bandaging and antibiotics.

🐾Thankfully, with dedicated care from our Merton animal hospital and then transferring to Victoria hospital, the sisters began to recover. Blossom needed several further treatments under sedation, but both kittens made wonderful progress.

🚐After 10 days in our care, Sweetpea and Blossom moved to one of our rehoming centre to begin their search for a loving new home.

💔Their heartbreaking start is a reminder of why better legislation around pet breeding is so important. ❤️‍🩹

💫Meet Drew💫

🐱Drew was found on Tooting Common by a passerby who heard a tiny meow, followed it and found little Drew extremely unwell and barely able to move.

🏥He was rushed to our Merton hospital before coming to Victoria. 🌡️His temperature was so dangerously low it wasn’t even registering on the thermometer, and he was severely anaemic because of a heavy flea infestation.

🚨Flea anaemia happens when fleas feed on an animal’s blood. In tiny kittens, a heavy infestation can cause enough blood loss to leave them dangerously anaemic and unable to carry enough oxygen around their body. Sadly, we’re seeing more and more kittens and adult cats arriving with serious flea problems.

🥺Despite killing all the fleas, Drew remained critically anaemic and at risk of dying and needed a blood transfusion.

🩸Luckily, we had Pearl with us. She had also arrived with a severe flea infestation and had scratched herself red raw from the itching. Pearl and Drew had the same blood type 🅰️so she was able to donate blood to him and that transfusion saved his life🐾

🤩And look at him now, Drew is doing amazingly well.

🏥We share the happy stories, but sadly all too often kittens arrive too late and, despite our teams doing everything possible, their little bodies have been pushed too far and they don’t make it. 💔

📚Drew’s story is a reminder that fleas are not just an irritation. For a vulnerable kitten, they can be fatal.

‼️Please keep your cats protected with a veterinary recommended flea treatment.

🥰Drew survived because someone heard his tiny meow and Pearl gave him the blood he needed to live. 🐾

🎉Today we celebrate the amazing veterinary receptionists who are so often the first voice and friendly face clients and their pets encounter.

🏥From answering calls and coordinating appointments to supporting worried owners, booking in discharges and keeping the whole practice running smoothly, their hard work, compassion and dedication make such a difference every single day.🐾

🚇This gorgeous little chap was found at Camden Tube Station and, although he’s only a youngster, he’s already proving to be absolutely full of personality! 🥰

🏡Camden is off to a lovely foster home tomorrow, as he’s not quite old enough to be rehomed just yet. ❤️
