Was delighted to arrive just in time to rescue this little chap from his 'bag' last night😊 We are quietly getting through the spring births in this strange old year. Between lambs, calves and foals there has been no time to be bored during emergency call only lock down. This foal is a special one, Melody lived at Douglas Hall for a few months what seems like a lifetime ago before her now owner fell in love with her and guess what? Yip the daddy is our very own Eddie (Eastlands Nettlebrae) who thinks he has the best job in the world making these lovely foals

Trying to keep an eye out on the Nematodirus Forecast- the wee worm that causes scour and sudden death in young lambs... The hatch out of eggs on the pasture and therefore the risk of disease is closely related to weather patterns meaning that we can get an idea of when lambs need treatment. Worm egg counting can be done but we can get sudden death in lambs with nematodirus with no signs of scour and before egg out put from the worms begin hence the forecast comes in very handy! So there are weather stations at Carlisle and Eskdalemuir.... Eskdalemuir is forecasting a 'moderate' risk and Carlise now forecasting 'very high' risk. The risk on your farm will be relative to conditions depending on if you are more like Eskdalemuir or Carlise. In general the lower the farm the higher the risk. Also fields which had youngstock grazing on them last summer pose a higher risk. For more info visit www.scops.org.uk/forecasts or give me a shout

It's that time of year again when we all reflect on the past 12 months! Our Thistle has done well since this photo was taken 12months ago- she was out at 2 shows and come home with first place rosettes from both! I know some of you have had some great achievements in 2018 and we want to be reminded of them no matter how big or small, don't be shy now let's hear all about them!! All the best for 2019😊

Time is still flying on and with even the later lambing flocks weaning lambs everyone is planning ahead for next years lambing. Still time to 'make some teasers'. Using vasectomised tups can tighten up the lambing period and encourage ewes to come into season. The operation needs to be done at least 40 days before the teaser is required to work. Its also time to make sure up to date with abortion vaccine including for campylobacter where needed
