If you’re looking for a way to attend events with your horses and ponies and to meet some new faces, there are a some local clubs you can be come a member of.
Western Isles Pony Club has been part of the younger equine community since 1981. You can be a member up until 25 years of age, it was a starting point for many professional riders such as William Whitaker, Piggy French (now March) & Carl Hester. The Pony Club has a structured learning pathway that supports members in gaining riding and non riding knowledge. There is a wide variety of badges and progressive Pony Club tests that can be gained while promoting good sportsmanship and developing friendships. Members are insured when participating in Pony Club events consist of rallies, camps, Castle Grounds Rides, competitions, quizzes etc . It’s a great way for the next generation to learn together!
Lewis & Harris Riding Club was formed in 1986. It caters for senior, junior, riding and non riding members. Whether you’re a leisure rider or someone who likes to compete, they support riders of all levels and interests with activities. Riding club activities take part in the form of camps, lessons, arena days, competitions and club rides. Your membership will be covered for insurance while attending riding club events. It’s a great way to meet other members of the equine community. Membership can also grant you access to riding club competitions on the mainland.
Lochside Arena opened in 2012 and was officially opened by HRH Princess Ann in 2013. It consists of a 60x30 indoor arena, 30x30 outdoor arena, 10 indoor pens, toilet facilities (including accessible toilet) and kitchen facilities. Lochside Arena host lessons and events throughout the year for members and non members to attend. It can be hired privately or as a group/club for a range of actives, not just equine based ones.
