The benefits of Back Medication

Not every horse with back pain needs injections — but for some horses, targeted medication placed into specific areas of the back can play an important role in reducing pain and improving comfort.

Before considering treatment, it’s important to identify the source of the problem. A thorough clinical examination, assessment in motion, and where appropriate, diagnostic imaging, help us build a complete picture of what’s going on.

Back injections may be used as part of a wider treatment and rehabilitation plan for conditions involving the joints of the spine or areas of localised inflammation.

In this video, you’ll see Simon performing a series of back injections under sedation. Local anaesthetic is placed under the skin with a fine needle to ensure the large injection is comfortable for the patient

Every horse is different, and successful outcomes rely on combining treatment with an appropriate rehabilitation programme tailored to the individual horse.

Helping Horses Return to Comfort and Performance

Lameness assessments are about far more than finding where a horse is sore. They’re about understanding how that horse moves, what has changed, and most importantly… what is stopping them doing the job they love.

Whether that’s competing at the top level, hacking at weekends, or simply being comfortable in the field, our goal remains the same: to get each horse back to moving confidently, comfortably, and at their own best.

Through careful assessment, diagnostics and tailored treatment plans, we work alongside owners, farriers and physios to build a clearer picture — and create a pathway back towards comfort, performance and confidence.
