🫏 Magic by name, magic by nature! 🫏

We recently received this lovely message from Magic’s owners following his treatment for colic:

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you to Simon, Cassie, Maddy and Emily for everything you did for Magic the donkey over the last few days to help him recover from colic. It was such a worrying time and we’re incredibly grateful for all your care, patience and support.

I’m so happy to say that Magic is now doing really well and is completely back to his usual cheeky self—as if nothing ever happened!

Thank you all so much for looking after him and helping us through such a worrying few days. We really appreciate everything you did.”

We’re absolutely delighted that Magic is feeling better and back to his usual cheeky ways!

🩺Donkeys can be incredibly stoic, meaning signs of pain or illness are often much more subtle than we might expect. They may not show the dramatic signs commonly associated with colic, such as rolling or obvious distress.

⚠️Early warning signs can include:

* Becoming quieter or less interested in their surroundings
* Eating less or refusing favourite treats
* Producing fewer or abnormal droppings
* Standing away from their companion
* Lying down more than usual
* Changes in posture, facial expression or ear position
* Simply appearing “not quite right”

🩵You know your donkey best. If their normal behaviour changes—even slightly—it is always worth seeking veterinary advice promptly. With donkeys, subtle signs can indicate a significant problem, and early intervention can make all the difference.

Well done, Magic—you certainly kept everyone on their toes! 🫏💙

We’re sharing this gorgeous girl on behalf of our clients at RSPCA Gonsal Farm Equine Centrewho are looking for the right home for Waffle.

Waffle is looking for someone who wants to enjoy the quieter side of horse ownership. She has been assessed by us and is suitable for light, leisurely hacking — making her a lovely prospect for someone who isn’t looking to compete or spend hours in the arena, but simply wants a horse to enjoy. 💜

Sometimes the best horses aren’t the ones destined for rosettes — they’re the ones who make you smile on a quiet hack on a Sunday morning. 🐴💜 So Please check out their page and see if Waffle or any of her friends might be suitable

We are still seeking a loving, compassionate, and knowledgeable home for Waffle, where she can enjoy a relaxed lifestyle.
She is currently undergoing light groundwork, such as lunging and long-lining. Although she hasn't been ridden at the center, our vet has cleared her for light hacking, which will provide gentle exercise to maintain her health and keep her fit.

A very big thank you to Border Temperature Control for coming and supplying us with a mobile air con unit to keep our mare and foal box cooler during this heat wave
Within a few hours we had the unit on site and installed. What a fantastic service for our patients
Here’s one of our in- patients taking a snooze in the cool stable whilst his mum is in for treatment

Our clinic flowers are looking absolutely beautiful again this year! 🌺

We’ve always loved filling the clinic with hanging baskets and pots throughout the summer. A big thank you for Dave the Gardener for the great job again

There’s something about all that colour that creates such a lovely, welcoming atmosphere for our patients and clients — and it certainly brightens the working day for our team too! 🐴🌿

And we have to say… the baskets have absolutely outdone themselves again this year!

💧 Fresh water is one of the most important essentials during a heatwave. Horses can drink significantly more than usual in hot weather, so ensure they always have access to clean, fresh water and check buckets, troughs and automatic drinkers several times a day.

Water levels can drop quickly, troughs can become warm or contaminated, and a simple extra check could make all the difference to your horse’s health and comfort.

Top tip: check the water trough… then resist the overwhelming urge to climb in yourself………/. We know it’s tempting 💦🤿

Darcy certainly wasn’t complaining about his cooling shower today! 💦 On warm days, hosing your horse with plenty of cold water is one of the quickest and most effective ways to help keep them comfortable and reduce their body temperature.

Top tip: If a hosepipe ban is introduced in your area, don’t worry – using a hosepipe for the care, cleaning and welfare of animals is exempt, so you can still keep your horses cool when they need it most.
