Wags & Whiskers

Wags & Whiskers Hello there! I'm Pip, and I run Wags and Whiskers from the sunny Llantwit Major. I live in the lovely Llantwit Major with my human and pet family.

⭐️Experienced dog walker covering Llantwit Major and surrounding area.
⭐️Pet visits
⭐️Licensed dog boarding in a loving family environment

🐾 Please get in touch for availability and prices 🐾 I love visiting pets in their own home and take great joy in embarking on adventures, exploring the amazing local fields and beaches with my furry companions. Rain or shine, I love discovering new places, c

overing Llantwit Major and surrounding areas. I am a proud owner of Cadi, an adorable King Charles Spaniel, as well as two cheeky moggies - Ollie and Boo. After a long career of looking after humans as a registered nurse, I decided to also follow my other great passion - pets and pups. I pride myself on offering solo walks only unless you already have more than one pup in your family - ensuring that your furry friend gets all the attention and adventures they deserve.

I am fully DBS checked and insured so rest assured that your companion is in capable hands.

I love the autumn, but did you know…..Conkers and acorns are toxic to dogs!!! They are also a choking hazard.

Symptoms of acorn or conker toxicity include:

🍂sickness
🍂diarrhoea
🍂tummy pain
🍂restlessness
🍂rash (difficult to see)
🍂swelling around eyes and mouth
🍂weakness and collapse

How to keep your dog safe from conkers and acorns:

Keep your furry pal on their lead in areas where conkers and acorns are on the floor. And be on the lookout in case they start playing with one.

If you’re concerned your dog might’ve chewed or eaten a conker or acorn, or they’re showing signs of illness, speak to a vet right away.

Secrets of your dog walker!

1. It's a lifestyle, not just a job. If you're in it for the money you've made a big mistake because a) you're never going to be rich.

2. We talk to each other more than you might think. About the best walking boots, what clothing we are wearing for today's weather, our financial struggles, the traffic, dodgy men in the woods, fallen trees, etc. It's a lonely job but we have each other's backs from a distance.

3. We don't physically have eyes in the backs of our heads but we know so well the sound of every jingle of every ID tag, and every dog's individual footfall on the ground behind us, we may as well have.

4. We can't physically see round corners either, but we know so well each leading dog's body language in reaction to an oncoming person and/or dog that we may as well be able to.

5. We hear "Are they all yours?!" and "Wow you've got your hands full" at least twice a day, but we always smile and say "They keep me on my toes". Every. Single. Time.

6. It actually breaks our heart when a dog moves out of our area, and we thoroughly investigate our replacement for our own peace of mind, even if the client hasn't asked us to. Let's not even talk about when they pass away, we feel every bit of grief too, more than owners might think. ( 10 times in 10 years🥹)

7. If you peel back a few layers of clothing (depending on the season) you will find bruises, scratches and scrapes covering the whole of our bodies. Don't bother asking where they came from, we have no idea.

8. If you see a dog walker looking vaguely presentable on a weekday, you should send help, something is not right.

9. We love our clients' dogs as we do our own and will sometimes lie awake at night worrying about their injuries, illnesses, and behaviour problems. We can't help it after spending so much time with them. It hurts us when clients don't appreciate this.

10. Despiter the financial uncertainty, the harsh winters, the blood, sweat and tears, it really is the best job in the world!

Let’s talk about…. The importance of giving dogs fresh water on a walk!

When and how much depends on breed, weather conditions - but typically water should be offered every 15-30 mins as a minimum on a walk.

Dogs get thirsty just like us, but they can’t tell us.

Without fresh water they may disappear on a hunt for a source which maybe a puddle or a ditch containing toxins (oil, fuel, pesticides etc..).

That’s why I always carry a big fresh bottle of water and collapsable bowls. We always take a break (or a few on warm days) on our walks, have a rest and a good drink!!

Welcome to October 🎃

It’s National adopt a dog month - I did and she has changed my life forever 😊

Meet Cadi:

This is Cadi, a beautiful rescue who completely changed my life. I begged hard for her, and she became my heart dog—the inspiration behind Wags & Whiskers and the reason I am who I am
today.

I was once a very sad NHS nurse, plodding through life, tired of being overworked and
underappreciated. Then Cadi came along and brightened my world.
One day, while out walking with her, I had a lightbulb moment:

What if I could do this all day, every day, as a real grown-up job? And Cadi could come too!

After much planning, promotion, and knocking on doors, it happened—my very first client!
It wasn’t easy. I quickly learned that dogs don’t just come to you. You have to sell yourself, build
trust, and earn confidence from both people and their dogs.

It’s super hard work, but I’m here—loud and proud—walking dogs, building bonds, and living the dream that started with Cadi.

If you’d like to join me (and Cadi, of course), get in touch with: Wags & Whiskers
