The truth about dogs with labels like aggressive, naughty, anxious and impossible to train is that they are none of these things. The truth is that there is a communication breakdown. We are both different species and a lot of the time, as much as we try, we don’t fully understand our dogs needs and read the situation incorrectly. This means that our dogs are not understood, their needs are not being met and this causes behaviours that are normal for the dog but a problem for us. If there’s a communication breakdown, our dogs are trying to let us know they are not happy about something, when we don’t understand and the situation doesn’t change, the dog may exhibit behaviours like confusion, attention seeking, frustration barking excessively and aggression. All these behaviours are a cry for help. If you are experiencing any of these issues with your dog, it’s because a problem has not been addressed. I’ve helped people bridge the gap of communication and solve the problem. Sometimes it’s more simple than you think.

Dogs are never too old or too damaged by trauma to change. Luna was dog aggressive when I first took her on almost 4 years ago now. I spent many hours with her, teaching her and gaining her trust. Now she lives with my other 7 dogs and is totally non confrontational, she has a huge amount of respect for the other dogs and cats she lives with and her true personality has come out. She is a baby and a very sweet and gentle member of the family.

This is Julie and Frankie, they attended the Groom your own dog day course with me. Julie wanted to learn how to groom her little dog especially now that she has acquired a baby sister for him . Curly coated dogs need regular grooming and this can be expensive so Julie decided to try and do it herself to keep the cost down. It was clear to see that Julie and Frankie both shared a close bond and they can grow even closer now that Julie can groom his coat. Julie was shown how to brush the coat without pulling at matts (which is uncomfortable for your dog) and how to use a comb to detect matts so they can be dealt with early before they become unmanageable. We also did some scissor work and I showed Julie how to safely use the scissors without injuring her dog.

This is Ffion and Florrie the golden doodle. Florrie is a credit to her owner who has put the time and effort into training her. At only 9 months old, she is a gentle giant with impeccable manners. It took a long time to groom her due to her size and coat type.
They attended the groom your own dog day course with me and did amazingly well. Florrie’s coat is in the most difficult to groom category. You have a poodle mix coat on a large breed and taking care of this coat is hard work and can be very expensive and labour intensive if the coat gets matted. Having taken Ffion through all the steps of grooming Florrie, I feel she has a deeper understanding of what is necessary to take care of Florrie’s coat and is perfectly able to start her journey of grooming her dog at home. Well done!!!!🐾🐾

REVIEW

My aspiration is to be able to groom Florrie myself and strengthen our bond but she had started to dislike being brushed so I lost hope that I’d be able to complete a full groom myself. I booked in with Sonia in the hope to find out why and what I could change to help. She gave me insight into little changes that I could implement in order to be able to home groom Florrie myself. Florrie was very well behaved for a puppy and stood for the entire groom very patiently. Sonia explained that Florrie had developed a dislike to being brushed because of matting (something my previous groomer didn’t explain). We had to start afresh and cut her fur short so I look forward to maintaining Florries coat and returning in the future for Sonia to teach me how to do a different cut!
