A few harsh truths about getting a puppy or any dog.
They don't come house trained.
You will have to take them outside, many, many times in the day and possibly a couple of times at night at the beginning. Come rain or shine.
If they have an "accident" it's your fault for not paying attention.
They have little shark teeth and it hurts when they use you as a chew toy.
You will have to redirect their chewing onto appropriate things.
They don't know the house rules.
You will have to show them, calmly, and not get cross with them, so they learn what you want.
The world is an exciting and scary place.
It's you job to offer them reassurance and guidance.
The effort you put in will mold your puppy into the adult dog that you want to live with.
If you're prepared to step up and meet your dog's needs, you will have a devoted, loving, well trained, friend.
If you "can't deal with" the occasional, vomit, diarrhoea, the odd tick and some mud. A dog is not for you.
Dog trainers should never be a last resort.
If you need help, ask for it.
We love our job and we want you and your dog to have a long, fun, happy and healthy, life together.
We've seen it all before and truly want to help you.
We won't judge you for mistakes you may have unknowingly made.
We want to bring the joy back into you and your dogs lives.
Too often, I see people with confused dogs who "won't listen " "behave like maniacs" and "destroy everything".
The truth is that some owners don't do enough research before impulsively getting a dog and they just aren't prepared for the commitment involved.
It breaks my heart when a client comes to me and I know that I am just a box to be ticked before the dog is shipped out to a rescue centre or another ill- prepared home.
Please, for the love of dogs, if you can not commit 100%, DO NOT get a dog or any other animal.π
I promise that as a dog trainer, I am all sunshine and rainbows and I will commit to helping you and your dog.
I will help you to achieve the relationship you want, if it's in your dog's best interest.
But, as a box to be ticked, you may feel a little frustration oozing from my pores π€£π€£π€£
