This is Brian Jones. He is a true hero ❤️ For the past 40 years he has given up his own time to save other people’s lives. Brian is a volunteer for the British International Search and Rescue Dogs (BIRD). The team consists of volunteers who work with specialist trained dogs to assist in disasters - both at home and abroad. They don’t get any government funding. They are not paid. They do it because it matters 👊
Brian might be in his 80s, but he’s still playing a pivotal role as team leader. He has guided BIRD through countless emergencies - including earthquakes in Turkey, India, Pakistan and Algeria. He’s helped with floods in Mozambique and in supporting humanitarian efforts for Ukrainian refugees. Back home in Wales, he’s also assisted police and rescue teams searching for hundreds of missing people across the UK.
When he’s not deployed on a search, Brian is fundraising on behalf of the team - and you can often find him standing in all weathers at car boot sales or fundraising events to ensure their vital work continues. It’s safe to say, Brian has, and continues to, make the world a better place every day. He is a legend. Simple as that ❤️
Brian, from Penmaenmawr in Conwy, has now been nominated for a St David Award for his commitment, courage and devotion to saving lives. What a truly deserving nominee for this award 👏
