Great day at Llandysul show with Tysul vets. Douglas and Daisy the teddies 🐶🐕 had lots of injuries that needed bandaging.

It was great to be back with puppy classes. It is such a privilege to be part of their journey, learning about the world and building a relationship with their owners.

Week 1 is all about getting used to the surroundings, playtime, and a little bit of marker words, luring, sit and down. The most important thing is that the puppies are happy and comfortable.
Both puppies settled really well, and we had a little time for positive introductions to each other.

Lesson plan - Walking calmly with a lead

Remember having a lead attached can seem like a normal everyday thing to you, but to your puppy that hasn't experienced it before then it takes time to adjust.

Take it slow, make it positive and don't move onto the next stage until your puppy is happy and comfortable.

The outdoor world has alot of new things for a puppy to take in, we want the lead not to be novel when they start experiencing new things.

As back to school approaches for the little humans, it seems a perfect time to talk all things puppy and setting them up to succeed in the big world outside.

Start by familiarising your puppy with their harness or collar.

Do this in small steps at your puppies pace.

Start by simply letting them inspect the collar/harness on the floor.

Then place the collar/harness on the puppy but do not close

Practise closing the clasps away from the puppy, so they get used to the noise

Close clasps closer to puppy

Practise putting the collar/harness on puppy. Close clasps, and remove again.

Practise longer periods wearing the harness/collar in the house, play games, go into the garden.

Sit in the car whilst wearing the harness/collar

*USE TREATS TO POSITIVELY REWARD RELAXED, CALM BEHAVIOUR AT EVERY STAGE*
*DO NOT MOVE ONTO THE NEXT STAGE, UNTIL PUPPY IS COMFORTABLE AND HAPPY*

Ensure the collar/harness is a good comfortable fit.

Turbo and Ivy were all fresh after their shower yesterday.
Turbo had a trim around the face so he could see better 👀

There's lots of different approaches to grooming, depending on your dogs needs and preferences.

Join my new course, creating calm examinations, handling and grooming through positive reinforcement starting Thursday, September 10th. 6.30pm Tregroes Hall SA44 4NN £50 for the 4 week course
