Codman's Punch & Judy Llandudno

Codman's Punch & Judy Llandudno Est. 1860, Britain's oldest running TRADITIONAL Punch & Judy Show. That’s the way to do it! That's the way to do it!!

Richard Codman, a travelling showman was stranded in Llandudno in 1860 when his horse died. He collected driftwood from the beach and hand carved the Punch & Judy puppets, the very same puppets you still see today. From 1860 to 1863 the show performed within the town of Llandudno but in 1864 gained approval from Lord Mostyn to perform on Llandudno promenade and has done almost every summer season

for over 160 years. The show is now in the care of the 5th generation of the Codman family. Codman's Punch & Judy is a TRADITIONAL Victorian style show including the old historical characters. Codman's Punch & Judy is not funded and only continues through audience's donations, why not come along, enjoy the show, try the photo booth and maybe buy a souvenir.

Llandudno Pier Crowned Pier of the Year 2025 🌟🌟🌟

Llandudno Pier has won the prestigious ‘ Pier of the Year’ award for 2025. The hotly contested annual award is voted for by the members of the National Piers Society, the official campaign and lobby organisation representing the interests of Britain’s seaside piers.

Society Chairman, Tim Wardley expressed his delight at the result.

“ When I learned of this year’s winner I was thrilled. Llandudno Pier has suffered a torrid time with the storm damage inflicted over the winter and our members were highly impressed with the way the pier owners, staff and public all pulled together to ensure repairs were carried out in record time to get the pier re- opened . It really shows what a valuable and much loved asset the pier is to the community and visitors with messages of support and donations from all over the world. Well done Llandudno – a most worthy winner!”.

NPS Patron Gyles Brandreth added his delight at the result.

“ Three cheers for Llandudno! Cheer! Drink Beer! Enjoy this fantastic North Wales pier as it basis in the glory of ‘ Pier of the Year’!.

Paul Williams, General Manager for Llandudno Pier added his delight at the news.

“We are overjoyed with the announcement that Llandudno Pier has won the prestigious Pier of the Year award for 2025. The last time we were awarded this great accolade was back in 2005.
In the past 18 months, a huge investment has been made by our parent company, Tir Prince Leisure Group, in the replacement and repair of several steel piles, bracing and decking. We also announced the commencement of work for the reopening of the Happy Valley entrance which is still under construction.
Late last year we faced the full brunt of storm Darragh which caused significant damage to the Pier and prolonged the repair schedule.
Again, a lot of hard work was put into getting the Pier back up and running and open to the General Public.
A lot of much effort goes into the day to day running and upkeep of the Pier, which is enjoyed by millions of visitors every year. So many people are involved in the successful operations of the business from our dedicated Maintenance team, to our unit staff, management, arcade team and concessionaires who rely on the Pier for their livelihoods. The Pier is often referred to as a close knitted community, a town within a town.
A special mention must also go to our amazing and supportive local community and businesses to whom we have created fantastic relationships with including Llandudno Rugby Club and Llandudno Football Club.
Finally, I would be remissive for not acknowledging the continued support and investment of the Williams family, Adam & Alison who purchased the Pier back in 2015. Since then, the Pier has grown from strength to strength every year, employing hundreds of locals and supporting the local communities and charities. Through their guidance and vison, the Pier has become one of the foremost Tourist attractions in North Wales.
A heart felt thank you to The National Piers Society and it’s members for the great accolade. Llandudno Pier – National Pier of the Year 2025!”

In the annual event second and third places were hotly contested with Swanage pier just beating Herne Bay pier into third place. Congratulations to all our worthy winners this year.

The family are heart broken, shocked and devastated to announce the sudden passing of Jacqueline Codman Millband. Mum was 82 years young.

If you’ve been to our show over the last 30 years you will know her as the happy friendly lady stood at the front welcoming our audiences. She was the daughter of John Codman and the passionate driving force that kept the show going.

But you may not know she truly was the most generous, supportive, loving and loyal mum and grandmother. Making us all happy was always her biggest priority and we will be lost without you.

Obviously the start of this season will be delayed, we definitely won’t be out at Easter but will be out again when I feel ready to be there without her 💔

In September 2018 a storm blew the show from its chains causing irreparable damage to the booth resulting in the need to build a new one but sadly also causing extensive damage to our original 1860 proscenium.

Very luckily, two years ago I was introduced to Mr Christopher Drewitt, not only is Chris a part time Punch & Judy Prof. but his full time job is Senior Carriage Restorer at the Royal Muses at Windsor Castle & Buckingham Palace.

Well if Chris is good enough for the then Queen and now King … 😁
Over the past 18 months Chris has painstakingly and enthusiastically restored our beloved proscenium taking every care to strip back, strengthen and restore it to probably the best it has ever been.

We can’t thank Chris enough for agreeing to take it on, his diligence, his hard work and his respect for this part of our family history. We are so happy!

Would love to put it back on the show but very apprehensive about putting it out in the salty seaside weather offering a target for the seagulls 💩. Rest assured we will find a way to make sure people can see it.
