Webster’s story ❤️
5 years ago today, I lost my soulcat, Webster. He was where it all started… let me tell you about him 🖤
I first met Webster in May 2015, in Skiathos, Greece. An island I loved very much already, I’d had a rough time in life the few months prior, so took myself off on a solo trip to see some friends over there and recharge my battery. So I decided to volunteer with my good friend Sharon, at the cat rescue she ran for a week to give me something to do while over there.
On the first day I landed back on the island I fondly feel like is home to me, I went to meet everyone, and very quickly found myself sitting on the floor with a 7kg, very chubby, black and white cat on my knee who then proceeded to nibble onto my tshirt and suckled away doing happy feet against my shoulder. This was my Webster.
I had never had a cat before, I never wanted a cat, I had never envisioned my life with a cat. Until that moment. I fell in love. For the rest of the week I carried him round on my hip like a baby whilst I went about my daily jobs. Then my week was up, I came home.
That year I was lucky enough to be going back only a few weeks later in August, where I had a huge 21st birthday party with a massive gathering, and everyone knew my love for Webster. My family went up and met him too - still with no picture in mind to adopt him. A few weeks after we were home again, my mum turned round one night out of the blue, and told me to tell Sharon, I’d have him.
Fast forward a few months to February 2016, and I travelled from Liverpool all the way to Amsterdam via car, ferries and trains, to meet my friend in the airport bringing him over to me, before heading back the long trip with him to Liverpool. We got back home on 14th Feb. My forever Valentine boy ❤️
Webster had a few medical issues along the way that we fixed, until unfortunately, secondary lymphoma happened, and we could not treat him any longer. And I had to make the heart wrenching decision to let him go on Friday 30th April, 2021.
My world changed that day. However, if it wasn’t for that tubby black and white boy, I would never have pushed myself as hard as I did to become a registered veterinary nurse. And I certainly would never have started my own pet sitting business either. I owe everything to that little boy. And I wish everyone in the world got to meet him, because he was truly one of a kind.
I hope you can all see just how amazing he was 🖤❤️ he is why I do what I do, and why I am who I am 🐱
